The going rate for a starting RB is about (low) 2nd or 3rd. That is essentially what the Jets gave up. The landscape has shifted in the NFL and outside the elite backs it seems that teams are putting more of a premium on offensive lineman than RBs due to durability and longevity issues. From the Bears perspective, I think they knew TJ would not be happy going into 2007 without an extension. Addthat with the money they had locked up in Benson plus the fact that Benson was a Angelo #1 draft pick (not saying that line of thinking is right) and the trade of Thomas Jones was inevitable.
yeah i never liked him that much until this year. but he is more solid than houston and a good pairing with leon. and i think the bears ressurrected his career but didnt want to pay him once it showed. not to mention they have baby benson to soothe in the locker room. i just like the fact rb isnt a glaring position to address.
I did the calculation based on them given up their 2nd (61st overall) and their 6th (188 overall). According to the value chart those two combined have a value of 308 or the 59th pick overall. Doing the same calculations on us moving from the 37th to 63rd pick equates to a value of 254 or the 67th pick overall...
Sounds good but when I think of this so called "steal" the JMaC one keeps creeping back into my thinking sorry to say
well anything can happen champ, only time will tell. my guess is he barely avg's 4 yds but is a good chain mover(thats never a bad thing) while leon breaks big runs.
While a number of people liked the JMac trade, not too many people called it a "steal." The thinking was that JMac was a better WR than the Jets could draft with their 2nd round pick that year, however, I and many others thought a 3rd rounder was more appropriate. At the time JMac showed promise in limited action and the Jets took a gamble that he would flourish given regular reps, but the deal wasn't considered a "steal."
Yes in the end the sands of time tell all. Hey if we can have 3rd & 2 most times due to his efforts I will take it. BTW sorry to say I think you maybe a tad over estimating Leon breakaway abilities
np we disagree, no big deal. i think if our line could actually run block (i think theyre horrible) leon wouldnt have to make contact with a LB as soon as he squeezes through a hole. you get some actual blocking, maybe even a OL actually touching a LB like normal good blocking entails, and leon will break some nice plays. last yr was us watching our smallest back become our best runner because he was the only one who could fit through the non existant running lanes.
Well that also sounds reasonable so we will see as you say as time moves along. BTW I totally agree with U on the run blocking of last years OL from one end of it to the other
Sorry at the time there were many others who were posting that we "stole" JMaC from the Titans just like we are now saying we "stole" Jones from the Bears. The post are viturally the same just the players names have changed
Agree to disagree (However, I think it is hard to say you "stole" a #3WR for a 2nd round draft pick.)
The difference being that Thomas Jones has just played in the superbowl and McCareins was signed more or less on one reception that he caught which went for a touchdown on MNF against errr.....
OK my bro used to live in Manhattan Beach 1 block from the strand. Last time I was in LA he met me as he nows lives south of SF & we went back to his old house to have a look
Depends what you mean by stolen...a couple of years ago we were in the same boat as Chicago, they have the veteran(Jones) and the understudy (Benson)and we had Martin and Lamont Jordan...did we get value for Jordan? Its all subjective, Thomas Jones comes in and plays well, nobody really cares:up:
Oh yes , I was around when we drafted JMac. I thought it was a good aquistion and as someone else has already posted , better than we could have picked up in the draft. He was never a steal though. On the subject of JMac , cut the guy some slack. He's no world beater but toward the back end of the season he played well especially on ST. Since hes been with us hes under-produced , but now we have a different regime in place maybe he realises how he has to change.
Yes but you have to pause & think that the NYJs are his 4th team & if he was so gooooooooooood why does he move around like he has. Yes if he is producer nobody would complain. All I am saying the same was said of JMaC if you recall & look at it now most would say the Titans stoled a 2nd rounder from us for him. When something like this occurs you have to ask your self why the Bears let him go & since none of us have the inside infor from the Bears we probably will never know until this up coming regular season commences
JMac had only one team before the Jets and he's hopeless, Jones has had 4, but it's clear that he didn't fit in at Arizona, where every RB in recent history has struggled, and never got much of a shot to do anything in Tampa - coming in just after they won the Superbowl to a team that had no more to achieve, it was a down year for everyone there. After that he went to Chicago where he has proven himself capable year after year. It's a much nicer trend than you see with some players at the end of their spell with a third team.
