Stick with what we have, we will never know if we dont give them a shot behind the new O line, running game, and hopeful defense ...im on the NO Cutler bandwagon or any other FA!
I ain't taking the kool-aid this year. You wanna bet your whole season on Clemens or Ratliff, go ahead. Me, you gotta get a veteran QB here in case these guys both suck. We just don't know but how the hell do we go into the season betting either one is gonna be good. Especially Ratliff, it was a pre-season, meant zero.
I love Ratliff as much as the next guy but there is no guarantee that he is gonna work out. If this opputunity hadnt presented it self i would be fine with going into the season with either Clemens or Ratliff as the QB.But the fact is that we have a chance to add a young proven Qb, so i think we should at least try to get him. Also there isnt any guarantee that the draft picks that we have will work out either. Idk why people put so much stock in them cause to me they arent really worth that much when u really think about.Look back at the previous drafts in the past there pretty much is a 50/50 shot on whether u gonna get get a pro bowl type player when u picking in the 1st round.Why not already trade for a proven player if we can.
If this opportunity doesn't pan out I would not be at all surprised to see the Jets trade for Quinn or Anderson. What will shock me is if they do nothing and stay with what they have. More than shock me in fact. There will be a fan revolt according to some articles that have already been written. A hundred or so fans here are all pissed off at Favre but that is not the general Jets fan take on it. They loved having him and don't want to settle for Clemens or Ratliff in '09 AND start paying for PSLs.
Ratliff lights up defenders who most of which are probably earning a living working as janitors right now and you guys think he is the second coming of Jesus. Amazing. Absolutely amazing.
Look. If your system fails because you don't have a marquee player, then your system sucks. It should be the other way around - the players should be able to rely on the system to prosper. Contrary to your belief, that's what most of NFL teams are doing. Why do you think experience in certain system matters? With that in mind, it's always a better idea to construct a system that can succeed once the players understand the system - no matter how talented that guy happens to be. Now, in that light, think about bringing in a new guy into the system. That new guy will have to learn the new system entirely - veteran guys may have some experience to fall back on, but that doesn't mean he will be proficient in the new system. See how Favre failed. Most of all, nobody knows if Jets have the right personnel to run the offensive system they want. They have Clemens with 4 year experience, Ratliff with 3 years under the belt, and Ainge with 2 years. If you ask me, Ainge is better than whoever Jets decides to bring in either through FA acquisition or draft, simply because he's more accustomed to it. (And Ainge is not even the best QB on the roster, mind you.) It's always easy to jump on the bandwagon, and yell out "Pull the trigger" - but is it really necessary? I think not.
This year if we do not trade for Cutler or draft a QB early the odds are that we will have the same QB questions next year. Most likely Kellen & Ratliff are not the answer the odds are against them. If Ratliff is so good why was he undrafted? If Kellen was so good why for the last 3 years has he not been able to beat out Chad? I dont know I am not with the lets see what we have thinking I do not want to go 4 & 12 again.
Best case scenario for Ratliff is by 26 years old he's a Pro Bowler and leading the 2nd ranked offense in the league. Cutler already is that. Look at the Yankees not trading for Santana because they wanted to give Hughes and Kennedy a chance. The next year they wind up overspending for Burnett and giving Sabathia a monster contract because they didn't make the playoffs. I don't want to go into 2009 with everything else in place but a QB and not going after the type of player who just flat out does not become available every year.
I'm all for bringing in Cutler if we can get him for a reasonable trade, say our first rounder. Not very likely to happen. If we have to give too much, forget about it, not worth crippling our future.
i agree that he most certainly could be and i wouldn't mind the wait to find out but i'm not at all against bringing in cutler i wish we would have drafted him all along
I'm not really following your tangent... What I was saying is I don't understand the love affair for a guy who lit up 3rd and 4th string defenses in a pre-season game. People seem to think that success will magically translate into success as a starting NFL QB.
Disappointed? This is how I see it, I'd much rather have a proven commodity than an unknown. Yes, the unknown is exciting and has limitless potential, but you also have to acknowledge the potential for tremendous disappointment. Cutler is a proven commodity. No matter how you slice it, the guy is a franchise QB. Maybe he's a headcase, or maybe he just got pissed that they tried to trade him. I could see how something like that would upset a player, especially one who led the second highest rated offense last season. Yes, Ratliff made some nice throws in a preseason game against 2nd and 3rd string defenses. If the coaching staff thought he was so great, they wouldn't have traded for Favre. The coaches are in practice with these guys everyday and see lots of stuff that we don't see. They analyze a QBs mechanics, his arm strength, his accuracy on every type of throw, his pocket presence, his ability to read a D, etc...Yes, he made a couple of nice throws, but that doesn't mean you hand the reigns to him. I do not expect us to land Cutler and am prepared to enter the season with 3 unknowns. Like I said, some excitement comes along with that because anything is possible. However, things could also turn out like Clemens' first gig as a starter. Those were some of the most boring games I suffered through as a fan. The guy just looked lost out there...like a deer in headlights. I know we had a porous o-line and no ground game to speak of, but he just did not look like he could cut it. He had problems making the right reads and suffered from "happy feet" while in the pocket. I guess we will have to wait and see what happens, but I don't think you can be disappointed in people wanting to acquire a proven starter who is only 25 years old.
