If Wilson is done for the season, he will never be an elite NFL QB. He might become a decent backup one day but no more than that. The Jets will be back to square one as far as franchise QB search goes.
Tearing your ACL doesn't hurt for long, but for a minute or two, MAN it hurts. That's why you always see guys sprawled on the ground like they've been shot, and then a minute later they're walking off basically under their own power. Zach sort of popped right up, and never really had that look of intense pain that comes with a proper ligament tear. I suppose that's reason to hope.
Mahomes and Rodgers both sat – and Zach is the closest comparable to them skill wise. You can't throw a natural gunslinger out there day 1 and expect him to perform. I don't see a rush to bring Zach back with Flacco and MW in reserve. Zach can be the one, but he's still not ready. After the first 3 games last year – I already settled it would be a Year 3 thing with him. He's too underdeveloped in reading the field to deliver anything meaningful at the NFL level yet.
Mahomes sat for one season and then won MVP in his second season. Rodgers sat multiple seasons, but we'll never know how necessary it was. Also, Josh Allen was pretty good in his second year, Herbert was good as a rookie, etc. The fact is there isn't a single elite QB in decades who sucked his first two seasons.
I wouldn't call it ahead of the curve, more like premature ejaculation. There are games to be played, and there is a decent probability the worst has been avoided with Zach. Let's see how the season goes. It's not like we can hire another coach and GM now. HORRIBLE INT on first drive. 1 bad throw I know, but extremely disappointing to see that type of INT. Then the absolute STUPIDITY to try to run for more in a preseason game probably says a lot about the intelligence of this guy. Lets be honest, his rookie year was historically awful. Man I hope Im wrong.

I was not shocked or surprised at all when this happened. Feels like the typical beginning to a jets season.
