I'll agree only if there were documented draft boards with Zach rated way way down as in, not in the first round, and also that those same teams' guys would have passed on him had they needed a QB when their turn came. Has Justin Fields been that much better? I've said here several times before, it's a systemic NFL problem to over-rate then overpay QB's. And, most come out of college too early. We see it all over not just JD. One could argue the Darnold pick was worse since we traded draft capital to get to that draft spot. So I disagree, Coaching makes the front office look good as much as the other way around.

It's Joe D's job to be able to evaluate talent and have a plan to build the roster regardless of what the draft boards say. He obviously can't evaluate QB talent to save his life. That's been established. Not one coach or FO person in the Jets building has a clue about top level QB'ing in the NFL. Joe Douglas could've easily turned that lottery pick into several lottery draft picks and build the lines and team but he chose to draft Zach Wilson. You make it sound like he had no choice but to draft Wilson. It was a bad QB draft class, just like 2025 is going to be. It doesn't mean a team with a high pick and shitty QB has to pick a QB. That's the difference between a good GM and a total outclassed schmo like JD. Zach Wilson played at a non-power conference school against weak comp and shitty defenses. He also had accuracy issues coming out of college which is the ultimate red flag and death for any QB. Those two items right there and the eye test tell anyone all they ever need to know about Wilson. He was charmin soft coming out. Then he goes to a QB guru coach in Denver in Sean Payton and gets ample chances to win the job and shits the bed. You can blame it on the so called draft sites/boards and pundits but an NFL GM is supposed to be better than that and JD has mostly failed in the quality and quantity of his picks.

I don’t feel like a victim or act like one. The Jets and football are a hobby for me. Over the last decade+ of ineptitude I’ve learned to like football without it being tied to the Jets. A Jets loss doesn’t ruin football for me, so I don’t really care. Not to mention it was just a joke. Probably the most correct answer to the OP question is actually the Aaron Rodgers injury 5 seconds into the 2023 season. If he'd played healthy all last year, built rapport with teammates, avoided the Zach Wilson demoralization tour/waste of time, had no rust to shake off coming into 2024 etc etc etc. I'm pretty confident things would be going differently right now. There are a lot of other sub optimal factors to point to obviously but that probably is "the" singular biggest problem that the whole 2024 thing has gone so badly. The coaching staff being extremely weak as a group is probably in 2nd place.

Absolutely Joe Douglas. Not only is he responsible for each and every player on the roster, the same is true for each and every coach and the entire support staff. His position at the Jets is to be the leader of all football operations. As the highest ranked football person in the organizational chart he is charged with everything along the way to winning games. That means he must not only create a team that wins games but must also protect against allowing all other people and circumstances to promote ideas that are detrimental to the goal of winning regardless of who or what those forces may be. The team is a loser. It is on Douglas.
The one reason? Retaining Saleh and Douglas at the end of last year. I said it way back in January and I've stuck to it ever since then. The Jets punted on the season when they did that. Any chance they had of being a playoff team and accomplishing all of the things they couldn't stop talking about all offseason vanished when Woody made the decision to retain them. And that's backed up by the disaster of an offseason that Douglas went on to have that buried any further chance that remained of this team being anything other than the complete disaster they've been this season.
