I have to say, I would absolutely love to see Williams in Rex's defense and think it would be a spectacular fit. I just don't think it's happening.
It's tough, but I'm going with Nicks and Braylon. This way we can still sign Pouha, and maybe a cheap safety (Pool or Leonard). The rest we can address using the draft. Mario Williams would be awesome, but it's just not really in our best interest, financially, and if we don't address RT, we'll be in the same boat as last season. Defense wasn't a real problem last year, offense was. If we're looking for improvements, look no further. 5th overall defenses can win games just fine, if the offense is a little above average.
If we want to get creative and try to move Revis to Dallas for there 1&2 this year and 1&2 next year it could be worth it. The Revis move would likely end up being almost a wash for this years cap after the pro-rated bonuses accelerated to this years cap, but it would free up money in future years that we could allocate to a demon pass rusher in Williams. You give Williams his money in a prorated bonus over 4 years so we can fit him in this year and easily get rid of him when he turns 31. Then we take the 4 extra picks in the top end of the draft over the next 2 years and fill holes with top end talent at discounted rookie cap prices. Of course this will never happen but a man can dream.
Why does anyone think we can sign mario or think its a good idea to sign mario. Some of you guys are beyond clueless
Do you? You think that arguably the best de in the league could e successful in Rexs system? Hmm. Have you ever considered being an nfl gm?
I don't think we'll capitalize fully on Revis value at this point for a couple of reasons, first it's going to be hard to find a trade partner who values Revis as a franchise cornerstone. CB's just don't play that role for an NFL team and never have. Secondly, I think it would stun Rex to lose Revis and I don't think that's such a good idea right now. Revis will leave town when Rex does. The new management team at that point will parse Revis play value vs his trade value and pull the trigger on a good deal. Until then the Jets need to build around Revis and hope the defense isn't too soft up front in the process.

I don't think he's going to pull that much. If he hadn't been hurt and had had a career year then maybe close, but paying a defensive end $17 mill a year is kind of crazy. You could make a pretty strong argument that the only position on the field that is worth more than a tenth of the cap is QB. You could also make a pretty strong argument that no position is that valuable.
I agree it probably won't happen. If anyone would do it, the Rob Ryan and Jerry Jones combo that chased Asomugha with us last year would be one the ones. Rex would figure it out if he had Williams coming off the edge and 2 former 1st round corners behind him.
Will the fact that he was injured hurt him, yes. But he is demanding to get the biggest defensive contract in NFL history. Maybe that won't happen, but he will get close to it. There are no other pass rushers in this Free Agency period, and there are no elite prospects in the draft this year. With the new CBA in place, some team will give him the money he is looking for. It just depends on if he wants to play there.
I remember thinking the same thing about Aso last year and the Jets were really trying to pull that off.
I went with Mario Williams and Braylon Edwards, but I'd also like to take Michael Floyd with our 1st round pick.
absolutely true but I think this year is different. I think everything the Jets are doing reeks of them doing things differently than they usually do them. Everything from the Sanchez Contract extension (a very prudent move, IMO), to the hiring of Tony Sporano (not a flashy guy but someone with definitive principles), to the front office's obvious commitment to being very quiet about any potential interest they may have had in Manning . I also think you will continue to observe a quieter, more humble rex ryan. I think it's all part of the same collective transformation.
