Keller had his best year this year: 65 receptions, 815 yards and 5 touchdowns. That's career highs in Receptions and yards. While those numbers aren't amazing, he was better then Holmes who only had 51 catches for only 654 yards. Keller might not be a great blocker BUT he was Sanchez's security blanket, and a good one at that.
Whether any of this crap is true or not is debateable, but the perception is that this is an out of control team on a downward spiral, and in the public eye perception is reality. Ryan better get a hold of things and quickly, or he is going to find himself out of a job in short order. This is getting beyond ridiculous now.
Yes. This. Let's open the windows and get it all out now. In January. And then build things correctly through OTAs and training camp.
Aw cmon this can't be true Fuck this shit, i was all happy with schotty gone and now this, 2012 is gonna be another letdown season
Talking about Keller on this thread is obviously a digression and off the point, but while I do not share the view that he is among the worst players on the team, his poor blocking definitely complicates the Jets approach to using him in offensive sets. I don't want this to sound like it is all that simple, but in general: If Keller is the only TE on the field, that tells the D it is not likely to be a running play IF despite that the Jets run the ball, they will not get much help from Keller in run blocking If Mulligan and not Keller is on the field, it is almost certainly a running play If both Keller and Mulligan are on the field, that makes it harder to guess, but it means you've subtracted one player from your other skill position players. See? It's a problem.
Keller had 65 receptions for 815 yards and a 12.5 average, ranked 6th, making him the shittiest tight end in the NFL besides the other 43 tight ends who obviously suck more.
What does that have to do with practice? The guy sucks, plain and simple. He doesn't have "it", it's clear. If you don't have a Top 5 D and a Top 5 rushing attack the guy is useless. He always turns the ball over inside the oppositions red zone or inside our own 40. He's a mental midget. Go pose for GQ some more "Sanchize", I can't believe people we dumb enough to give him that nickname.
I hope you are not being sarcastic, because I think there is a great deal of merit to the notion that the air should be cleared now. That is one of the reasons I was happy with McElroy for saying what he thought was going on.
Geez, that is only part of the picture. ESPECIALLY in a run oriented attack the TE must also be a good blocker or the entire offense suffers. Keller is not a good blocker. Face it. Why did the Jets put a penalty machine like Mulligan out there so much? Because they like seeing little yellow flags? No. It's because he was a better blocker than Keller.
it's the fucking offseason why is sportscenter leading with this. did we hear this shit when the giants collapsed the last 2 years? holy fucking shit.
I wasn't being sarcastic at all. It's out now. So get it ALL out. My only problem with McElroy was the unintended irony of his comments. ETA: Also have to note that, although Sanchez seems to take the brunt of this article, the biggest indictment seems to be of Rex. He should be steaming this morning.
That article was a lot more damning for Rex than Sanchez IMO. The fact that so many players and employees feel comfortable to speak this way and throw their QB under the bus, shows how out of control the Jets are, the inmates are running that asylum. “I don’t think that he’ll come here,” (speaking of Manning) a member of the Jets organization said. “We have to change the perception of our organization. We’re not the organization that players said they wanted to play for a year or two ago. We’re starting to come across a little flaky. We talk the talk. We don’t back it up. We’re out of control. There’s no discipline. It’s a mess right now.” All these talks and leaks are a scathing review on how poorly Rex is handling the job as head coach. I honestly don't know how Rex is escaping criticism from everyone.
That's why teams run two tight end sets. Nobody's arguing that we don't need a real blocking TE. There are very few TE's in the league that do a spectacular job at both. Doesn't mean he's terrible.
I don't agree with you at all - the team is totally lacking in discipline, both on and off the field. Heck, the head coach has no discipline. He's already been spotted giving fingers, and/or cursing people out in public a bunch of times, he insults other coaches before realizing what a stupid comment it was - and the team mirrors this. YOu can't hate the player that's telling the truth.
Adversity breeds shit like this. The team was an unexpected success for two years, and now it's an utter failure (based on expectations). The true character of people comes out when things go bad, and the early signs about this team's character in the face of adversity is..............not good.
Chiefs. Only game they played from start to finish. Jaguars was a joke - they put up a ton of points in the second half after frustrating the hell out of us for the entire first half.
Agreed on this point. But I'm willing to wait to see if that develops in him. Don't forget, the kid is 24/25 years old - he's really young and probably doesn't feel comfortable taking command of guys who, in many cases, are older than him by a fair amount. I'd like to see him be a bit stronger than that, but I will give him a couple more years before judging that aspect of his game.
