So basically for the Sanchez apologists it comes down to the following options. If a player feels that there is a problem and that Sanchez is not carrying his weight and goes to the coaching staff with those thoughts then that player is a problem and a cancer on the team. If a player does the same thing anonymously then that player is a bitch. Someone brought up the fact that Braylon Edwards went to the coaching staff last year about his role against Indy and that he was repaid with being cut loose by the team at the end of the year. Former players who played very recently for the Jets have come out and openly criticized Sanchez and questioned his ability to be an effective QB. Derrick Mason was apparently not at all satisfied with how the offense was being led and went to the coaching staff about it and was very quickly let go. Now even more players are raising their concerns about Sanchez's ability to lead this team. But to the Sanchez apologists they are ALL wrong and are team cancers/loudmouths/bitches/cowards/irrelevant.

At this point it doesn't matter if you personally think that Sanchez is a bust or if you think that he will turn into the next Joe Montana. Rightly or wrongly he has little to no credibility with many of his teammates and they are starting to make it clear that they would rather be seen as being "malcontents" and possibly sent to another team than to continue playing here under the same circumstances. This is a very real problem and the front office is going to have to decide very soon if they are willing to risk so much dissatisfaction amongst the team in the name of sticking with a bottom tier QB who is being treated (and paid) like a superstar.

If you dont see the questions being asked then the responses lose all credibility.

Manish said he asked players to give their honest assessment of Mark but its clear from the responses (i.e. the reference to none of the respondents agreeing with Mark being made a captain) that follow-up questions were asked and it’s the easiest thing in the world for a journalist to get the responses they want.

To give a completely fictional and exaggerated for effect example of what I mean:

R: “give me your honest opinion of Mark this year”

P: “well I feel that there is more to come from Mark”

R: “so you are saying there is room for improvement?”

    P: “well, yes”

R: “and would you like to see Mark improve his command of the team on the field?”

P: “yes, it would be great to see”

R: “if there was to be one thing that you would like to see Mark commit to working on this off season what would it be? Improved ball security maybe?”

P: “yeah, knowing when to throw the ball away rather than trying to make something happen would be good”

    R: “that’s great thanks”

Reporter goes back to desk and types up his headline: “Jets players slam Mark, saying he has lost the respect of the players on the field and is a turnover machine”

Just to be clear, I am not a big Sanchez fan or apologist but I think this whole media storm thing is being blown out of all proportion.

You forgot the most important question......

R: "if Peyton Manning, Dan Marino or Joe Montana were 100% healthy and could play today, would you like to play with an all time great QB?"

P: "Sure, every player would. NBA players would all love to give it a go with Jordan or Magic or Kareem, I'd love to see what I could do with Marino, Montana or Manning"

Ftr I have never seen any evidence of Woody being notably smart.

I think Woody Johnson has exhibited exceptional smarts as a new owner of an often beleaguered football franchise in what is a dog-eat-dog competition.

Yeah, he inherited a lot of the Parcells players but if you look at the team that went 11-5 in 2010 there were almost none of those guys left. Shaun Ellis was about it.

Specifically, the Jets are trying to be successful in a way that nobody before them has had consistent success. They're trying to build a team via free agency and a few star players gotten by trade ups in the draft. They've been doing this since at least 2003 and arguably since 2001.

In that time frame the team has collapsed a couple of times due to injuries and lack of depth but they've always managed to get back on a competitive standing within a couple of seasons of the collapse.

Woody has changed his coaches twice in the span of a decade and had the new coach make the playoffs the first season each time. The Jets have now had three coaches in a row that made the playoffs in their first season coaching the team.

What all of this tells me is that Woody Johnson has a pretty good idea of what it takes to win in the NFL and has pursued a consistent game plan designed to get the Jets over the top. He has some more learning to do, because he doesn't have forty years in the game the way the Rooneys and Maras do, but his initial results have been very promising.

Look at the number of owners out there who think making the playoffs twice a decade and living at 5-11 or 6-10 the rest of the time is success. The Jets fans are much more fortunate than that. We've at least got a guy who has a clue running the team.

Don't get me wrong, some of the things Woody has inculcated in the team are not that strong. The stability at the cost of repeating the same mistakes is one thing that the Jets suffer from. The house needs to get really swept out now and then or the dust mice accumulate and Woody has not been good at getting out the big broom.

But on balance the Jets are more likely to go 10-6 and win a playoff game in any given season than go 6-10. That's been true through two GM's and three HC's now. That's the owner at work.

I wouldn't want to minimize the article - there obviously wasn't a very healthy working environment on this team. But the comments themselves only seem so unpleasant because Manish says that there is a large anti-Sanchez faction, which gives the impression that all of the quotes are somehow confirming that. But they're not; only two of them are really damning (lazy/not improving), and some of them smell bad.

Only one is from "a respected player", which is basically admitting that the others aren't. One is from "a source close to the Jets", which looks a lot like Manish has run out of dudes whose opinions might actually count.

There's also no indication whether these kvetchers are coming back or not, which is kind of important. For all of the "more than a handful" of people now or soon to be looking for a job, shitting on Mark is an excellent investment. As long as it's anonymous, of course.

It's also been pointed out that we have no idea what the questions were.

There's also a question of intensity in the "divided locker room" concept. If your "anti-Sanchez faction" refuses to play another down as long as he's in the building that's one thing. If some people are unhappy because he hasn't progressed as much as one would have liked, tell me something I don't know.

All in all, this looks like typical workplace bitching, and it's surprising only because it's in the papers. Nobody likes the boss' pet who screws up more often than he comes through, costing everyone money. You can't be content with the idea that he's "developing" (read: "losing games") if your career could end tomorrow, and you won't be the one benefiting from all this wonderful development. If Mark steps up and starts winning games, none of this matters. If he doesn't, he's gone anyway.

Well said. Sanchologists (I am starting that phrase) act like if you ever question him, you are not a real Jet fan, and are committing a crime. They think every player questioning him must be a bad apple and just bat shit crazy.

Instead of asking themselves why there are stories like this about Sanchez, and not about Mike Vick, Phil Rivers, Carson Palmer, or any other supposidly decent qb whose team missed the playoffs, they just pout and pretend nothing is wrong with their hero, and that it is all made up.

Sanchologists need to take over their green goggles, stop pretending they are Kate Upton, and look at the hard truth about their hero.

LMAO!!!! That's one of the best laughs from these boards in a long time!

You realize that 2010 was over TEN YEARS after Woody bought the team? I also don't understand your point, since he kept Parcells on board in the FO for one year, anyway, but that's a small point. But saying Sean Ellis was the only player left after ten years - what else would you expect over ten years??? That makes Woody smart?

You left out that the whole fiasco involving Belichik occurred after Woody owned the team. You left out that Al Groh was the first HC under Woody's ownership - that makes four, not three, HC's.

Hermtite Fans make much of his "getting in the playoffs" his first year. Yeah, the team's record was one game better than under Groh, and the season ended with a totally embarassing loss, 38-24, to Oakland.

Woody in any event chose Edwards because Tagliabue told him to.

Ftr I was not and am not an Edwards fan.

Then he chose Mangini, who apparently had as the best entry on his resume that he was a coffee boy gofer for Belichik. And both those guys were such great choices as HC's by Woody that neither one are currently working as coaches for anyone.

Woody's worst handling of the team involved the West Side Stadium deal. Whether you thought that was a good idea or not, and I thought it was not, he did not get it done, so what was so smart about his handling of that?

Woody is a trust fund baby who never accomplished anything in his whole life. I won't get into the politics of it, but leaving it at indications of intelligence, I have seen very little of that. The jury is out right now on Ryan, and Tanny is at best a mixed bag. Woody obviously expected he would get more from selling PSL's, too. He's hardly one of the best owners in the league. Far from it.

I use the term Sanchez Fans, (maybe I should say Marky Fans). What I mean by doing so, by capitalizing Fans, is to indicate they are more fans of Sanchez than of the Jets or, in some cases, confuse being a fan of Sanchez as being the same thing as a fan of the Jets. In other words in the latter case they have confused being a Jet fan as requiring unswerving and blind allegiance to the team's starting Qb, no matter what.

Now there's nothing wrong with being a fan of a particular player. I grudgingly became a fan of John Elway over the years, for example, when I am not and have never been a fan of the Denver Broncos (nice state, though, is Colorado). But that's different, and one need not root for a team the player you admire plays for. There's a difference.

The bottom line is we all should be able to recognize that the Jets as a team are not the same as and do not depend for their identity on any one player, even the starting Qb. This seems to be totally missing for some fans, the ones I call Sanchez Fans. But... if you want to cal them Sanchologists, that's pretty good, too.

I don't know if I fall into the "Sanchologists" phrase because I believe in keeping him because it is the easiest/best way for the team to improve overall. It seems a lot of fans of the Jets are cautiously optimistic on Mark and were asking to see him with a new OC which we now have.

I agree with Big Blocker that there seems to be fans of a player more than fans of a team. It is okay to acknowledge that every single player on the Jets played poorly this year. It is ridiculous to put all the blame on only Smith, Sanchez, Schotty, etc. Everyone contributed to this poor season from Tanny down to every player and including all the coaches.

I think the majority of "Sanchologists" are just asking for patience with him. I mean you compare him to some other QBs there...Vick is 31 and has played 111 games (and missed two seasons because of his jail time), Rivers is 30 and has played 100 games, Palmer is 32 and has played 108 games. Sanchez is 25 and has played 47 games. That's a pretty significant difference.

I don't think I'm a "Sanchologist" as I don't even know for sure if he's the guy to win us a SB but I'm also not going to throw a guy who is in his third year under the bus this early in his career...especially given his numbers are on par or better than some other pretty solid QBs (like Eli Manning who has a SB ring to his credit).

So I would just say chill out and see what happens.

Well said. I have grown fond of Tebow, despite realizing he is a limtied qb. But I am not a fan of the Broncos. I dislike Sanchez, as qb, but am, and always will be, a Jet fan. The two are not mutually exclusive. If you like a team, you dont need to like all the players.

Anyway, I just like the term Sanchologists. Its a bit long, but sums it up nicely.

When I say Sanchologists, I mean the people who think its crazy to even talk about Manning because in their eyes "we have a qb." Its the guys that post shit like saying he is similar to Eli Manning, or other such non-sense.

I get that many people want to see what he can do with another OC. But most of those people would have no problem getting rid of him if Manning was available. Yet there are some people who seriously think the guy is great, will become a top qb, and want him here at all costs. Whether that is Kate Upton and his family, under a million usernames, is not clear to me. But reading comparisons to Eli Manning is really a bit much, or making a million excuses of why he "struggled."

This part just about sends me over the top. It's based purely on comparing stat lines and not on any understanding of the situation Eli Manning had in his third year or on a side by side comparison of the two Qb's real abilities and play. For example Mannning lost Toomer during the year, did not have the Qb coach he wanted and perhaps worst of all lost his left tackle. As much as Ferguson had an off year this past year, imagine if he'd gone out and been replaced by Jacob Bender. Heh.

Plus Eli had all the fundamentals. Anyone could see that. Meanwhile anyone SHOULD be able to see that Sanchez has shown no improvement in reading defenses, in is field awareness, and in his decisionmaking.

    Oh well.

Well fair enough, there are definitely some crazy people out there who think he's some elite top QB. He's not. Could he eventually be good enough to win a championship? I wouldn't rule it out, but I wouldn't bet on it either. You need guys like Brees, Rodgers, P. Manning and *sigh* Brady if you want to bank on winning a championship. Guys like Sanchez and I guess you can add Tebow in there have the potential to win it but it is going to take a lot of miracles (*tebows*) for them to go all the way.

I'm looking forward to next year though. I think if we can improve the Oline and add a deep threat WR and with a new OC there is a lot of potential positives that could come out of that. Hopefully Sanchez learned from his mistakes last year and comes back next year with a vegence. If not then I'm definitely going to start to lean more towards the "act now" group than the "be patient" group I'm currently in.

Sanchez supporters are being called apologists now? So are you saying Sanchezism is a religion? What a joke. There is nothing wrong with having confidence in your QB who improved despite playing for the worst offensive line since he came and the worst running game, plus Schitty.

But there's no proof of that. Just the media telling you to jump and you saying "how high?"

Mason was a non factor in our offense. That's why he was let go and there isn't any evidence to suggest otherwise that isn't media or fan speculation.

    Speculation

    Strawman.

    Speculation.

LOL. Alright sure. Our offense had troubles this year, but why do you think it was completely Sanchez? He was having a great season before he got hurt, and had to play with a poor Oline and stupid OC. You really aren't willing to even give him one more year? That speaks volumes of your negative 'sky is falling' attitude' and team loyalty and defines fair weather fan completely. Dump Sanchez now, and watch him go to another team and have a career year.

Besides Eli Manning debunks your entire argument. You can't just give up on Sanchez now. Give him the tools he needs and watch him excel. If you won't even give him the benefit of the doubt with a new OC and fixed oline, then I honestly think it boils down to the 'same old jets' fans, that are never happy with anything, and assume the worst in all situations without evaluation anything other than personal opinion. Schotty was the leader of the offense. I'd like to see the Jets develop their own successful QB for once. I'm tired of the organization giving up on players too soon. We cleaned house with the offensive coaching staff, lets give Sanchez another year. Then we'll know for sure.

From a pure skill level, Sanchez isn't in the same ballpark as Manning.

Manning is a vertical QB who moves very well in the pocket, quickly goes through progression reads, does not lock onto one receiver and is very accurate delivering the football, not to mention far superior decision making ability.
