Thomas can practically hold the Patriots hostage if Belicheck really doesn't want him over here. Sabotage!
Thats what I was thinking when I read it. For Belicheck catching us on tampering is best case scenario him. These guys better watch what they say. I'm sure Belicheck is thinking the longer he keep Thomas the greater chance of somebody slipping up.
Jesus, 2-3 players that are friends and talk shit does not constitute tampering. Relax, tampering is something completely different.
Scott calls for Thomas to roll down I-95 You aren't the only one assuming they'll be teammates before too long. As you know, the guy on the right is Adalius Thomas, and on the left is Jets safety Kerry Rhodes. And Rhodes' teammate Bart Scott -- a close friend and ex-teammate of Thomas' -- went on "Mike and Mike" on ESPN Radio this morning and showed no fear is explaining how he believes that a Baltimore Reunion with Rex Ryan is a fait accompli for his boy. "It's funny," Scott told the guys (caught wind of this at Tim Graham's AFC East blog). "I was hanging with Adalius Thomas for Super Bowl weekend. We're buddies from back in the day. He made it public that he's expressed in interest in joining Rex. I think some of his better years of his career have been a part of the Ravens' defense and under Rex Ryan's tutelage. It'll be exciting." So Thomas wants to play for Rex. Does Rex want Thomas on his team? Well, if the coach's feelings on the player haven't changed too much in the last three years, then yeah, it's a safe bet. "To me, the guy's like Lawrence Taylor and Carl Banks," Ryan told David Fleming back then. "LT was a great pass-rusher, very fast, athletic and explosive. On the other side was Banks, who did all the dirty work, taking on blocks, stuffing the run, reading plays. Adalius is a combination of the two. For a long time, we just didn't have the guts as coaches to put a plan in motion that let him do it all. ... "In 10 years, when this kind of physically versatile player is a full-blown phenomenon, people will be wondering who started the whole trend. And you'll be able to point back to this moment and say, 'Hey, I know who it was'." It's widely assumed that once the Patriots can cut Thomas (March 5), they will. There's been no communication between the sides since season's end, but the structure of Thomas' contract (with no bonuses due in 2010) allows for New England to hold on to him through the offseason with no real penalty. Really, all the Patriots have to worry about is his $4.9 million base salary, which they surely won't pay, but doesn't start coming due until the first game check is issued. So they have the option to hold on to him. Meanwhile, the Jets may be held back by the Final Four Rules, but it doesn't apply to street free agents, which is what Thomas would be if he were released. That means the minute he is cut, he can hop on I-95 and head South. Which seems to be what he'll probably do. From the Boston Globe - Posted by Albert Breer March 2, 2010 03:08 PM
