I mean in all reality I would still support the Jets. I'm not 7 years old jumping ship to a new team.
I'm still pissed they moved from Shea stadium. If the Johnson sold the team the Jets should retain the Jets name. I would wait for the next franchise and root for them. The team that moved would be dead to me. I don't know what team I would root for in between.
That's also part of the problem. They will always play second fiddle to the Giants. Giants moved first so New Jersey is their home. The Jets just come off like leeches trying to get the scraps the Giants leave. I wished they would have gotten that Manhattan stadium deal. The Dolans paid off those corrupt politicians and lied about some buildings being built for low income folks. Yeah, that still hasn't happened nor will it ever. He just didn't want them cutting into MSG pockets.
You're at least talking about a team that is not afraid to make coaching changes during the season when what they have is not working.
Interesting point about if they move. I am from London. And you would think if that happened it would give me more reason to support them. So I am not sure what would happen. When I started supporting the Jets way back in the mid 80's I picked them for a weird reason. But after picking them I decided to base most of my support for any North American Sport on teams in the NY area. As I got into Hockey I started to root for the Rangers. Then with Basketball it was the Nets and with baseball the Mets. So I chose in short to support teams from the NY area. I made that my place in the USA. If they kept the name as the Jets and Moved to London I would carrying on supporting them. I would have no reason not to as they have not left without a team where I live. But if they changed their name. I think that would be it for me. I would probably move to supporting the Giants. Back when I First started and was only young I used to root for both NY teams. But split to just the Jets.
Where's the option for stop giving a sh*t altogether? Jets get moved to anyplace I'm done with them/my interest in it is gone. And I won't care/be in a rush to replace it with a new team.
I think I could back away from football completely. I could also follow the Cowboys. Just because I hate the Giants so much and their fans. Woody moving the team would be the most humane way to kill this fan base off.
File under "God does for us what we can' do for ourselves". It's probably the long-developed pessimism of rooting for the Jets all these decades, but I wouldn't be shocked if Woody moved the team to London. He could be rid of a fan base that has come to despise him, and gain a new, adoring and appreciative one, as well as rack up points with the NFL to maybe win a bigger share of revenue since he's being a "pioneer". It makes sense on a lot of levels. I don't know if he would be allowed to keep the "Jets" name however. If he were, that might dictate how many current fans stay/leave. I think most current fans would still root for a new team in NY with the "Jets" name, but not so many will follow the the London Jets. For myself, I have mixed emotions about moving them to London. If they took the Jets name, I'd be done as a Jets fan. If there was a new NY Jets team I would probably continue to root for them, and hope that the new ownership knows how to build a winning franchise. The best solution of course is that the Johnsons sell to new owners and the team stays in NY as the Jets. I'm not holding my breath though.
The Cleveland Rams left for LA in 1946, moved to St. Louis in 1995 and back to LA in 2015. The Cleveland Browns left for Baltimore in 1995. The City actually sued the owner to keep the name. Modell relented and Baltimore became the Ravens. The Browns new ownership started playing in Cleveland in 1999. The Colts left Baltimore in 1983 to Indy. If you live in Baltimore who do you root for? The Colts or the Ravens? If you live in Cleveland who do you root for? The Rams, The Ravens or the Browns? If the Jets moved from NYC the logical thing to do would be to root for the New York Football Giants who play in New Jersey. The other option would be fans and the City of New York to sue for ownership of the Jets name and history build a new stadium in NYC. Force the NFL to give us a new franchise and convince Mike Bloomberg to buy the franchise as the new owner give Sam Darnold a Lincoln Continental and move on. Woody should be forced to call the moved team to London the "Redcoats"
