If the Jets go 9-7 or worse, should Mangini get fired?

Woody already said EM would be around next year regardless of how the team performs this year. He believes in the 'process'

No, but Bob Sutton should have been gone last year. The 3-man rush is KILLING this team. Something has to change defensively and NOW or else we might be heading for 8-8.

Yeah, we have to get the 3-man rush the fuck out of here. That is the root of all our problems.

It's amazing to me that Sutton/Mangini/whoever doesn't realize that if you pressure a young QB with 5/6 guys, he will make mistakes. He will force passes, he will try to do things he cannot do. If you give anybody 5+ seconds with no pressure, they will find open recievers.

Mangini should be fired tomorrow. It's inexcusable to lose the thread as badly as the Jets have the last two weeks. Callahan (or Westhoff) should be running this team on Tuesday and Schottenheimer should be on a very short leash with Callahan looking over his shoulder. What to do on defense I have no clue about. Sutton is not getting the job done and there is no heir apparent waiting in the wings there.

The Jets need to have a sense of organizational urgency right now because legitimate shots in the playoffs don't come around very often and Favre is 70/30 to be gone next year, taking the Jet's chances with him.

We can get Holmgren. I don't know if he'd be willing to, but the allure of Favre's final year with a team that is on paper clearly talented enough to win an SB might be enough to get him to sign on.

I prefer Cowher though. We'd need to draft a QB or roll with Ratliff or Ainge probably, but at least the defense and running game would carry us until that QB developed into what we needed. Cowher can win with pretty much any QB. Until he finds that special one to win us the SB, we can be a dominant team that is year in and year out a serious threat.

Whatever the Jets do they need to take into account the fact that they have the personnel to run a 3-4 defense at this point. Going back to a 4-3 would be another disaster in the making for us.

    1997: switch to 3-4
    2001: switch to 4-3
    2006: switch to 3-4

We can't afford another switch back, with the majority of the personnel now supporting a 3-4.
