I mean obviously when you're having success running the football you want to keep running the football. I don't really see why the obvious needs to be harped upon here. My point is that even a team with a strong running identity should be capitalizing on that run game by executing a bold and aggressive passing game when the situation calls for it. The whole point of the run game is to open the pass at this point so I don't see how you can say all we want to do is be a running team, (I know you didn't say that I'm just saying if you took it to the extreme). It's also pretty meaningless to compare year 3 Sanchez with year eleventy Schotty versus year Sanchez with no Schotty. Myself and many others have been calling for Schotty's head for years now and we finally got our wish. I'd be a hypocrite if I didn't think there's a pretty good chance this offense gets turned around purely by switching out the OC and the conglomerate hybrid system. If we get T-Rich we have to run. If nothing comes available we have to run a little more than last year but doing it more intelligently and disguising run/pass formations way more effectively so the defense can't sell out and be right every damn time.
^^ One thing is for sure the fans (me included) will have no patience for a losing season or season that misses the playoffs. Unless, it was for unforeseeable reasons. This is New York. This is a win now city. A losing season or one that does not meet expectations will force Rex and Tanny out of town. Let's train hard, play hard, leave it all on the field and win.
3rd?? Bills have more talent than us both sides of the ball....if fins get manning we ARE the basement. prepare yourself for a 6-10 season.......the wheels come off the bus this year
Lol. If Bills have more talent on both sides of the ball then how come they played so poorly for 2/3 a season. Even if Bills sign Mario they still won't have a better defense. We were 5th in the league last year and people like to make it sound like we were terrible.
^ We have been able to run the ball easily on the Bills defense and have pretty much owned that franchise for the last 15yrs. Contain Jackson and we have no problem on defense. Run the football and we have no problem on offense.
I dont think rex and tanny should be gone if we miss the playoffs. If we go 4-12 then thats another story. I dont think this team is capable of going 4-12 with rex as coach though. In think Rex greatly improves our chances to make the playoffs if anything.
... rex & tanny should be back even if we go 0-16 ... ... that isn't going to happen of course and neither of them are going anywhere either ... ... that is going to be great for our franchise ... and i for one am thrilled about it ... l_j_r
You people are to much, 14 months ago we were a stop away from potentially going to the Super Bowl. We were a play or 2 away from making the playoffs last year. Let the season play out before you make these statements. Obviously this is NY, but im sure every city wants a championship (besides Cleveland). Coughlins team missed the playoffs 2 straight seasons, every last Giants fan wanted him and Reese out. Had they actually pulled the trigger, it would have been the biggest mistake in NFL history because chances are they dont win the Super Bowl last year without Tom. If you are all for firing Rex, hopefully you have a better coach to bring in here...
Rather than determining what circumstances should or should not get Rex and Tanny fired we can take a more positive approach and determine what is needed for them to succeed and for this franchise to take the next big step forward. Remember than under Rex we came close twice out of 3 years and that is not easy to do. Last year was a very frustrating 8-8 like it or not and in my view the front office made some mistakes both financially and personnel wise. I am still optimistic that both Rex and Tanny are smart enough to learn from their mistakes and get that corrected. We need to upgrade a few positions with the draft and plug a couple of holes through free agency without braking the bank. We are not in a desperation mode friends. The biggest improvement possible is to tailor our game plan to our players strenght. With Sparano and one change in the OL, and wide receiver to open up the field we should see great progress. I will not belabor the need for a OLB, ILB and Safety but just one great OLB can actually make the other two positions better by constant pressure on the QB. The most precious investment yet to be made is to establish a QB development plan and training that can over the course of the year get Sanchez to the level he needs to be for us to be successful, or at least determine if he good enough to get there or not. I am hoping for improvement that keep us competitive, but no miracles from either one.
if the bills add mario williams, our platoon at right offensive tackle will enable him to pad his sack and pressure totals for at least two games. we barely spilt with the fins, and they figure to be much better this year. thanks to our gm messing up with the cap and guaranteed contracts, we could be in the race for the bottom more readily then the top.
Interesting and fair question, Lamont. Please bear with me because the answer isn't something I can explain in a line or two. 1. BB did make several big mistakes when he was a very young coach in Cleveland, but most involved his handling of the media. BB took what was then the worst team in the league, in an era with very limited Free Agency. It was a time when rebuilding a team was 4-5 year affair. BB changed the culture of the team. Made very hard, unpopular choices, but the right ones. Every year the team improved, and he took his team to the playoffs and won a playoff game in his 4th season. He was right one track.to developing a consistent winner, Then, with his team 4-1, the owner announces the team is moving to Baltimore. They won just 1 more game that year. Even though BB completely bungled his relationship with the media (and he paid the price for it.) You could see the basis of a solid NFL coach. He gathered a great staff around him (check it out some time, some great names), His team improved, the team believed, he had a plan and was implementing it when the owner pulled the rug out from under the entire city. BB, who was viewed as the guy who cut Bernie Kosar, the guy who had the media against him, because of contentious manner he dealt with them, was the perfect scapegoat, and took the fall. Lamont. If the Jets just had a bad year, we wouldn't be having this conversation. But it was the WAY the Jets had that bad season. BB may have been clueless about how to manage the media, but Rex was clueless about what was happening in his own locker room. Big difference. It doesn't damn him forever, but it is an indication that things have to turn around, and quickly. He does have a few things in his favor. He is, for better or worse, the face of franchise. The media loves him because he makes their jobs so easy.....and he had those first 2 years where everything broke just right sending the Jets deep into the playoffs. If he gets the team back, they play hard and together, AND they still don't make the playoffs, I can see the Jets giving him another shot in 2013. However if there is more of the divisiveness that permeated the Jets for virtually all of last season, and team doesn't look like its improving, he could very well be gone at the end of the 2012 season. Again, it wasn't just that the Jets were 8-8. Its just that it seemed like Rex had lost "institutional control" (to use an NCAA term) of his team, and his remarks after the season, led me to believe that he still doesn't get it. Just not having captains, and giving Sanchez an extention is NOT going to solve the problem So that was a long winded way of saying, even though BB didn't have the same success Rex had in his first 3 years, the situations they stepped into were completely different. But even if you compare it then, BB seemed to have done a better job.....until the day football died in Cleveland.
I completely agree ... A lot of fans love Rex too. He's very passionate and believes in his team he needs to invest some more of his time to the Offense and shut his mouth and we'll be grand. I love Rexy .
I don't know why you guys keep saying this.....drivel. The Pats DID lose him, and with a guy who hadn't started ANY football game in 8 years (in HS), managed to win ELEVEN games. WHAT's your point! So thank you. When Brady goes, it will be a big loss, but the Pats will still be competitive regardless of who is the QB
Yes, Ken, and you keep responding with that, never taking into account the terribly weak schedule the AFCE played that year that allowed the Dolphins and Chad Noodlearm to win the division and edge the Pats out of the playoffs with their backup QB. New England would have gone undefeated against that schedule with Brady. So, while you didn't exactly finish below .500, your team only performed well enough to miss the playoffs.
