I would agree that Spurrier did Ramsey's QB psyche no justice. However, I don't believe he wouldn't start if he was better than Brunnell. I believe Gibbs will play the QB he thinks can win and to date that hasn't been Ramsey. It is entirely possible that a change of scenery will do him good. There have been QB's in the past that have done better down the road than they did where they started. Part of it is system and personnel. I'm not know-it-all on most of this stuff so... I did like Winston's idea above. If we acquired Ramsey we could at least see what he could do over the next year or two and he should come on the cheap side so we can jettison him if he isn't cutting it. Like I said before, he can at the least make a suitable backup that can take a beating (considering the work needed to be done on the o-line).
Precisely. In Gibbs' first season Ramsey started 7 games to Brunell's 9. Ramsey threw for about 500 more yards, his completion percentage was higher by roughly 14 points, and he threw 3 more TD's. (on the downside he threw 5 more picks). Brunell didn't come in and turn things around, or play any better than Ramsey, yet Gibbs decided to go with him and put a hold on Ramsey's development. Also, take into account that was his first season playing in Gibbs' system. He went from Spurrier (who ran a horrible system) to Gibbs in his first three seasons. IMO he never had a fair shot to run Gibbs' system. Also, the Skins line was terrible, and the guy never had time to throw the ball. Not many QB's (young QB's no less) would flourish under those circumstances.
Ramsey is worth the gamble at this point. I would prefer NOT to part with a third round pick for him however. I just have a bad taste in my mouth from the last year Jolley fiasco.
Oh absolutely. I wouldn't want to give up more than a 4th for him. I'm only fine with the 4th because we're probably going to have at least three (counting Herm and a comp pick).
Gibbs had no association with Brunell prior to the 2004 off-season when we acquired him. Ramsey was never given a chance to play because he has a gun slinger mentality, and that causes turnovers naturally(see favre etc...) Gibbs runs a ball control offense. Ball Control Offense+turnovers=death. The reason Gibbs likes Brunell and Campbell more than Ramsey is because both are smarter with the football.
Hey listen, I say take Ramsey. He's gonna be cheap, we could probably use KC's Herm pick to get him, and besides, maybe he will be good. Who knows? People can be a whole lot better in a different system. Just take a look at Santana Moss and how he excelled in a different system. If he bombs, so what? Not too much lost.
Gibbs system doesn't favor ramsey whatsoever. He's (gibbs) more of a run first, and when he throws it's to give the wr's a chance to get yards after the catch. Which the skins have the perfect personel for.
