I have a gut feeling that the 49ers are going to take him at #7.

2? Geno is not a project. He is a reject.

Smith is not a project, he is a bust. Petty is a project who could take a big step forward this season if he can get some reps. We need to sign Fitz or Hoyer and cut Smith. Keeping Smith who is not the answer is stifling Petty's growth.

Come next Saturday, it will be time to move on from Fitz if he's not signed. If we don't have the QB position fixed by the end of the second day of the draft, the Jets are screwed this season.

The trade mentioned in the OP is absurd.

As for Lynch, I would be a lot more interested in the Jets taking a shot on him if we had more picks and more depth on the offensive line. I really want us to spend at least two picks on the OL.

But then again they hired Sanchez, who took the Jets to the AFCCG his rookie year. And the next. So the Broncos are probably aware of the possiblitly of a rookie QB playing well (enough) with THAT defense to go far into the playoffs. Besides, how much worse could a rookie play than Manning played?

No matter what we do I'm confident it will be the right decision.
That is something I haven't felt in well, ever.

They could draft a QB and have Sanchez hold the fort until the young QB is ready. Maybe they feel like Sanchez could be decent with the weapons they have and that defense. I wouldn't feel comfortable going with Sanchez though. I would bring in a vet to compete with Sanchez.

No thanks. There are decent prospects like Hogan, Hackenberg, Cook who will be there later.

    Floyd, Raglund or O-Line.

We all know the dire need for OL, OLB and all. But if Lynch is considered a strong candidate and BPA by our staff you pull the plug, end of story. Next two years in the draft can potentially have no real options at the QB position. And quite frankly I'm getting tired of the Fitz rain dance. We need the guy

Sanchez didn't take the team anywhere. He enjoyed the ride that the rest of the team provided. To his credit, he rose to the occasion and played better in the playoffs than during the regular season, but by no stretch of the imagination did he lead or carry the team anywhere. That's just ridiculous.

I think Cook is a better player. I think Lynch also has a high ceiling but Lynch has the lower floor.

I would love a trade back into the mid 20's and grab Cook!

Im pretty high on Cook too. But everything Ive read about him leading up to the draft is teams dont like his character. Sounds like some immaturity issues or something. But I agree I wouldn't mind the Jets taking him if they are going to take any QB.

But he could probably be had in the 3rd round with the way his stock is heading.

I wouldn't even consider Cook before the 3rd round for several reasons: character concerns, footwork fundamentals/throwing motion, and accuracy issues.

What are these character issues Cook has? Until somebody provides something specific, I'm inclined to believe it's just groupthink.

I haven't seen it either, but it could very well he a rumor by a time that is high on him, trying to push him down the draft board

The problem with Cook is his inconsistency and his ball placement. He makes throws that make you say wow this guy is a stud, then misses a short check down a couple plays later by over/under throwing them.

I like him though. Comes from a winning program, with good dropback footwork, and an NFL arm. It's pretty hard to correct accuracy though, similar go what Sanchez has struggled with his whole career. It turns into a lot of unforced interceptions really, meaning that if the quarterback puts the ball in the correct spot he's got a completion, but it's slightly high/low/left/right to where the defender can make a play on it.

I would be happy to take a flyer on a Hogan/Cook/Brissett/Driskel/Sudfeld type of player in the later rounds (4 and on). It seems as though we're targeting Hackenberg, which worries me, but I trust Chan's knowledge of the position over my own in fitting his system.

I'm very pro the idea of taking a quarterback that has a lot of experience at good programs. Jake Coker intrigues me a lot even though the experience isn't there. Those players could end up like AJ McCarron who I think will turn into a solid player.

The "character concern" I've seen reported for Cook was that he was never a team captain. Being a QB, that has people questioning his leadership and likeability.

I think he's an NFL QB who will at worst be a longtime backup, and at best may be a Cutler/Stafford caliber QB.
