We aren't going to trade our under achieving bust of a draft pick. He's got to much PO-tential. PO-tential to be the worst draft pick in our teams history, that is!
Again...we already paid the bulk of his contract. Another team would be picking him up for 3 years at an average of $2 million per season. For a low price, a team would take a chance on him at 4-3 DE. Still, I don't think we get rid of the guy. Rex will give himself his 2nd year and Gholston his 3rd year to see if he can do...well...anything this season.
This. I've always supported Gholston, because he's a Jet, and will continue to do so until he isn't anymore. That said, I doubt he gets more than the preseason to prove himself. If he doesn't show progression, he won't be on the roster on Monday night in September. But we're not getting anything at all for him. Don't even bother to dream about it.
Fair value? Dude, lemme have what you're smoking. It must be pretty good. Ask yourself, what would you offer to get Gholston if he was lets say a 'Raven'? My answer? Nothing. Nothing until he proves he can atleast be on the field. This dude can't even contribute on ST.
That's probably why you don't trade him; with the bulk of the money having already been paid, you might as well give him and Rex every chance to try and see a return from it. Obviously you wouldn't turn down a decent trade, but I wouldn't be desperately bothered about shopping him around now.
Why is this so hard for people to understand? Gholston was signed to a contract with a max value of 5 years, $50 million. You can knock off 10 million in incentives that he will NEVER reach. That's $40 million. You may be able to knock off another 7.5 million in contract incentives that he's now HIGHLY UNLIKELY to reach. That's 32.5 million. Of that 32.5 million, 26.6 million has ALREADY BEEN PAID. We don't recover that money. So, we're talking about $5.9 million over 3 years that we save by dumping him. The money is NOT a reason to dump him any more. God only knows why they decided to forward him that extra money, but we can't get it back. The reason to dump him is performance based, not financial.
When he signed it, they were incentives he was likely to receive, which included playing time and low tackle/sack totals, I believe. Needless to say, he hasn't reached them. I think we can all agree we'd gladly keep him if he were going to, though.
Yeah, that was where I was going - trying to figure out just how shit hot good he'd have to be this season, and whether he was sufficiently money motivated that a combination of good management and a big financial carrot could actually get him producing the kind of play that physically he really should be capable of.
I was thinking one of the following 1) Ross Perot for President t-shirt 2) Tiger Woods guide to marital happiness 3) Lookingfordware and Mr Electric brothers in arms picture 4) Green Hornet ..how I fought internet cancer
in all seriousness.. having paid him that much money to do NOTHING, i feel we might as well as let him play here one last year had i know he was gunna play like this, they might as well as suited me up! all im saying is weve paid him like what 80% of his money already? id be upset if some how, some way we trade him foor a coditional and then he does realyl well on another team... Wouldnt that just be a big bite in the ass? if we can get something decent for him im all for it, i just dont see it happening lol
The worst case senario is, Gholston stays for the next two years to finish his contract, and .... after a shitty season in 2010 he lights it up in 2011 and we give him another big contract. Concluding with him playing out that next contract just like he did the first years of this one...doing nothing.
