video games make you think players are better than they really are. i got justin miller to a rating of 99 on Madden and he gets 15 ints a year on ALL-MADDEN
Awesome thread. Congrats man! Hopefully by Week 1 Mangini will be OUT and you will be IN. EDIT. I didn't see page 1.
so once the game actually starts you only call the play, you dont move the silly little guys around yes???sounds pretty interesting
RIght, you don't actually get to control player movements. You can put a guy in motion befre the play starts, and you can radio into the QBs helmet who you want him to focus on or where u want him to throw it, but what he actually does is not in your control. You might say throw deep to the sidelines and then see a guy open when the ball is snapped, but he will scramble instead and gain 1 yard. If he is a good QB he will wait in the pocket and see that open guy and throw it, but for example I have CHarlie Whitehurst starting at QB and he scrambles all the time when I don't want him to. You can also change the Quarterback's WR Progression before the snap, so he will check down in the order you want. But again, if he's not great, he may check down too fast and miss an open guy, or throw to someone who's not really open, or hold it too long and get sacked, etc. Also, I got Reggie Bush, and when Curtis goes in you can actually see the difference that the awareness ratings make. Like when Reggie runs, he'll go straight upfield once he is around the corner and he will aften miss the chance at bigger gains cuz guys from the middle of the field will take an angle and tackle him, but Curtis gets outside and curs to the sideline more....but now that I have played a few more games, Reggie has gotten better at it. So its decent at simulating reality.
The truth? Putting Vince back there to start in Week 1 would possibly be worse than having Alex Smith back there last season for San Fran. Unless they let Vince play his game, meaning run whenever he feels the need and not making him drop the way they want him to and throw the way they want him to, then he will have a long, long learning curve. And, because teams have been so critical of his form, etc, you can bet he won't be getting to start until the staff is convinced that he has picked up what they're teaching him. Thus, I don't see him starting Week 1 but believe it could be trouble for Tenn if he does. The Jets' defense will not be the cream puff it was last season, except maybe on the D-line.....but the LBs will blitz the hell out of Vince and shake him in the first quarter, then what?
Are you kidding?!?! sheeze I wonder If I had this sort of blind optimism when I started posting here...in any case we have no clue how good our defense will be or if Vince will have the typical rookie woes, but being worse then Alex Smith is a tall order for anyone. Alex Smith had as bad a season as I've seen anyone, (his last game was ok) and at the time the niners didn't exactly surround him with too much in terms of weapons. The titans are just like us....filled with guys with promise but somewhat unproven on the field. At least the titans coaching staff has more then 0 years experience at there positions. We definately are in no position to boast possible superiority of anyone, for all we know Mangini can't handle the pressure and folds like a deck of cards.
What I am saying is that is Vince is put in there week 1, he'll get destroyed unless they let him play HIS game. IMO, trying to change the way he plays is the worst thing they can do, we all saw how Vick performed when they tried to make him a pocket passer. So, I highly doubt that the "conversion" of Vince Young will be complete by week 1. I don't see him being comfortable playing the way they want him to by then. I am willing to say right now that if Vince starts that game, he won't finish it. At least he'll have Mawae blocking for him. If the Jets lose week 1, it won't be because of Vince Young.
LOL....speed isn't one of our strenghts in our DLINE or LB Core....I think Vince's abilities match up surprisingly well with our own. Still, unless Volek gets hurt preseason I don't see Young playing this early. I agree that it will probably take years to get him to learn a pro system, but after seeing what Big Ben can do (yes he had a surrounding cast but at this point I'm pretty sure they have enough surrounding talent to beat us) I'm not ruling this kid out.
I personally think that it sucks that they want to change his style. I know that the people teaching him are the experts and they know what works and what doesn't but Vince made it work in college, so why not at least give the guy a show at playing the sort of game he is used to in the NFL. Then, if it doesn't work, he can be a backup till he gets it right. We all know what Michael Vick looks like as a pocket passer...not that great.....so how can you say Vince can be as good or better by trying to change his style.....you just never know....and I think that's why there's is so much disagreement over whether or not he'll succeed.
