I strongly believe that the Jets should draft Vernon Davis with their first pick, and assuming they get an additional first or second for Abe target Mangold and an OT with the other picks. Davis is a player who can change the entire complexion of a team, and will be perfect for the Schottenheimer offense one that Gates has flourished in. Davis will create too many mismatches which have to be accounted for, freeing up the running backs and the other wide receivers. I would also like to see them try and get Brodie Croyle in the late second or early third. He could be a franchise quarterback. Ideally the Jets would trade down a couple and pick up a pick and Davis but I think he is the key to this draft for the Jets.
It'll be damn hard to pass on Mario Williams if we're sitting at 4, Cutler gone, and no more JA to fall back on.
Mario Williams could dominate our defense over the next years. And when Abe is gone, the Jets have to find someone to replace him, and signing a good FA will be very hard because of the Salary Cap problems. And later in the round the Jets should draft Mangold when he's available.
While I would like to see one of these big name rookies on our roster I don't know how much of an impact they will have, the team has been gutted, I don't think one star player is going to make a difference. Hell anyone we draft is not going to have a standout season becuase the overall team is going to have a rough season. At this point we need to trade down, stock pile picks, get a bunch of good players instead of one great player. Hopefully with a little luck one or two of those good players become stars. We don't exactly have a good history with high draft picks, Dewayne comes to mind.
 Agreed 100%. I'm ready to endure a few years of mediocrity if that's what it takes to develop this team. If we stockpile picks, we could become a big threat in 2-3 years once our guys get some experience (assuming the majority of them pan out).
Welcome, MobiusOne28. Nice avatar. What game is the avatar from? Is it the 2001 Pittsburgh game? Or is it the 2003 Pitt game we won 6-0.
W/ the way the big board currently presides, and considering our needs, if Cutler isnt there at 4 we have 3 options... 1. Draft Ferguson 2. Draft Williams 3. trade down for BPA
While I like the idea of trading down for a RB, we will need to find a trading partner...which I don't think will happen. But you certainly are establishing yourself as the parton saint of lost causes.
