First post on this board, but have been a long time reader. I went to Clemson, graduated recently so I know alll about these guys. Rex was there to see them all, not one or the other. Here is my take on the prospects: -Sammy Watkins: Depending on what team he goes to (one with a qb)...he will have 1000 yards as a rookie. Dont compare him vs who is better between megatron and aj greem, bottom line is he is in their category. He is as good as advertised and would 100% worth be trading up for if he is at #5. -Brandon Thomas: Very Very good OL prospect. Played LT at Clemson because we had such a bad OL. He is only 6 ft 3. Honestly will be in the league 10+ years. He has started at Clemson as a So. and has been the best player on the OL each yr. Had nice measurables too. Would be VERY happy if we got him in rd 2/3. Doubt he is around for us in rd 3. -Bashaud Breeland-Was a lock down CB. Big guy at 6 ft 1 and had great cover skills. Still kind of raw. I wouldnt expect for him to have any impact yr 1. A lot of people were shocked he left so early just because he want a "completed product". Regardless, he is worth a 2nd rd pick just give him a yr or 2 to get it l together, very good player. -Martavias Bryant: Stay Away!!!!!!! He is 6 ft 5 but plays like he is 5 ft 11. He is Stephen Hill Pt 2. Looked terrible vs uga going over the middle. Really they just started throwing it deep to him and thats all we got from him. Not going to work in the NFL as I said before see Stephen Hill. -Tajh Boyd: NOPE. Guy is not a gamer. IF he is around in rd 5...Sure! why not, any team that picks him in rd 3 is stupid. Good qb with great #'s, played against lousy competition and had Nuke Hokpins, Sammy And ANdre Elleington. Could be a good qb down the road, but my god he is RECKLESS with the football.
I think we got a lot better in our ability to cover TEs and RBs, which was our Achilles heel last year on D. I'm bummed to see DQ and Ward go, but at least we replaced them with the best-available guys at their positions (Dansby and Whitner). We did get a year or two older at those positions, however. Hawkins was a nice pickup for the slot, he has absolutely embarrassed our D more than once. It looks like Cincy isn't going to match the offer after all, so that's one less pick we need to burn on a wideout. I think it went OK, though I am really bummed they cheaped-out on Revis. We still have a ton of cap and we could have gotten a corner like Revis for a late 4th round-pick plus a lot of money. I wish they would have already extended Haden so they wouldn't have to worry about setting too high a precedent for CB pay on the team. I think that's what held them back on pulling the trigger. So, overall I think the moves they made were positive, but I think it could have been a home run had they traded for Revis.
