There are simple answers to all your questions - Rex shouldn't have gotten six years. But at least he had some success here to start. Idzik hasn't done anything to merit keeping his job. He also doesn't come with a nice record of success. I don't think Idzik is out to get Rex I just think he is bad at his job. They both should be fired.
First if Woody fires Idzik after two years it makes him look bad like the budinsky owner he is. Even though Cleveland fired Chudinsky after only one year as head coach. I don't believe Idzik neglected the roster but his moves haven't worked out and his 2nd draft was a bust. You should give him at least one more year.
Hmm, having a hand in building a Super Bowl Champion and another team that appeared in a Super Bowl within the last few years is not considered success?
give him 1 more year and let him further set back this organization? give him one more year so he hires a different head coach and Johnson has to fire a HC after only one year when he fires Idzik in 2015?
I've just given up on trying to convince people otherwise. The majority of people it seems, have bought into the idea that Idzik is a business man masquerading around as a GM. Why let facts get in the way of that train of thought?
I'm not for 5 year plans I think a team can be turned around faster than that. Plus 5 year plans turn into ten and longer if management is incompetent. But 3 year plans make more sense and don't encourage complacency. Let's see how this season unfolds and give the guy one more off season.
I don't understand why this keeps coming up when the facts have been laid out several times on this site alone. How many other NFL GM's have actual coaching experience like he does? Not that that alone makes him a personnel guy but the resume seems to indicate he's pretty well rounded. That's not to say he's done a good job so far, the facts are out there.
As I have pointed out elsewhere, the give him one more year makes no sense if Ryan is fired, since that means only one year with teh Idzik/new HC tandem. People will say not without reason that one year is not enough to judge such a relationship. In addition, if you put Idzik on a one year leash that almost certainly will affect how he goes about using the cap space next year, as well as related issues such as what kinds of contracts he will pursue. And of course all that available cap space magnifies how many contract issues he can address from his short timer gotta get it done now perspective. The real problem is Idzik has no track record whatsoever of pushing big sums out the door in an effective manner. Even his work here to date has not proceeded in that environment. One more year is a problem even if Ryan is retained, but it gets more problematic if he is not. And since I think Ryan should go, that's another reason to can Idzik, too.
He's a good receiver , but he was literally rated dead last in run blocking by PFF last year. He's pretty terrible.
