Vilma was a very good sweeper MLB in a 4-3. Not a Ray Lewis or Brian Urlacher by any means but a much better version of Donnie Edwards.

He had top 5 MLB for a decade written all over him. Never the best but consistently up there.

That is more realistic....Donovan Darius is almost his size.....to play OLB in a 3-4 you need to be Adalius Thomas size

exactly, i consider top 5 premier, remember he only had a few years professionally in the 4-3, not only is he less affective in the 3-4, it potentially "stunted" his growth in the 4-3, we will see what happens

My fear with that, as I stated before, is it would take away, almost completely, Rhodes' playmaking ability.... No matter how fast he is for a LB, make no mistake, Vilma would be a liability in deep coverage ala Roy Williams... This means less to no blitzing from Rhodes, unless we were to go into a Cover-0 or free coverage, which is very risky if your corners are not exceptional in man coverage...

That also means Rhodes would not be wise to try to jump many passes, because his deep support would be lacking....

You move Vilma to SS, and you take one of our best defensive players out of a situation which hinders his ability to make plays, and you immediately plunge our other best defensive playmaker into a situation which hinders his ability to make plays

Honestly, i do not think Vilma will ever play safety. He will most likely be on a different team next seasdon, and I am willing to bet he does very well in the right situation. Never underestimate a Hurricane.

He neede to get out of manginiville just like McGahee neede to get out of buffalo. And now, Willis is 30 yards behind AP for the rushing lead.

Sean Taylor leads the NFL in ints.

Edge James is third in rushing.

    Devin Hester

But playing the guy out of position, and with a weak DL in front of him, he is going to flounder. Who on the defense has stepped up this season? They all have pretty much sucked. BT- invisible. D-Rob-meh. Barton- too much mileage. Ellis? Who knows where he's been. Dyson blows tackles, so did Eric Smith, Barrett isnt a good CB. The whole defense has sucked. but Vilma will escape to a better situation for him, and he'll bounce back. Bank on it.

Vilma will be fine as soon as he gets the fuck out of here, and ultimately, it will be the Jets' loss.

I am in favor of tradition with the 3-4, because it most often results in success. There's a reason prototypical players are sought for this type of defense. And playing Vilma at safety or 3-4 OLB will accomplish the same results that playing him at ILB is now:

    1) Destroy the prime of his career playing a position he is not physically capable of playing to the level of a first round draft pick
    2) Stipulate that every player surrounding him play at Pro Bowl level in order for him to be effective
    3) Create a potential game-plannable weakness in our defense

We're wasting Jonathan Vilma and he is not helping our defense at the point of attack, nor do I think he is capable in this alignment.
