And what if we happen to win the Super Bowl as a result of adding four valuable players for a number 1 pick in what is projected to be the worst draft in 12 years.
but we wouldn't have to make the trade straight up. what if we traded the 1st rounder for the high second rounder and a 4th, then traded that high second rounder for a mid-low second rounder and another 4th? theoretically those trades are doable, but it would require a team trading out of the high second round this year in a deep draft for an unknown number one next year by a Super Bowl contender in an unknown draft and then another team desperate to move up in the second round. that's a lot to depend on and risk the first rounder. not a bad idea in theory if there are players we are higher on at the end of the second and fourth round.
I'm confused. Too much math. Say we did trade our first, who is to say we could then keep trading down? Risk management....is the risk worth taking? Sometimes it seems like a good idea, but in the end it isnt.
Funny how these fans come outta no where come draft time, and post shit like this, only to never be heard from again.
I know, right? It's almost as if Tannenbaum didn't want to be unceremoniously fired in the middle of the draft immediately after making two great draft picks as an unfortunate example to the rest of the personnel of what not to do during the draft.
tic tic tic wating for round 4....killing time. anyhow, being 'all set' before the draft allows two things....pick the BPA (wislon) -or- drop down and stock pile. trading down really does allow a team to gather much needed depth and future players. plus the draft is a lot more fun to watch when we have tons of pics. and for the reasons the OP stated, THIS would have been a great draft to trade down in.
Why would anyone trade their first round pick when it will cost half what this years cost after the new salary structure is in place.
