You're the same guy who thinks QB win-loss records are the ultimate indicator of a QB's success Keep rooting for Vince Young and his 20 turnovers from last year though- he's a proven winner.
At least give Rivers credit for playing hurt. He could have sat on the bench with LT. I'd take Rivers over any Qb on the Jets roster also.
No doubt. Rivers isn't the reason they've lost though...I still remember Jackson and Parker's terrible drops in '06 when they could have had the Pats on the ropes.
Rivers was wildly inconsistent... I'm not sold he's better than Chad. I also think the jury is still out on him though. I don't think we reached a bust mark either. Another year might change my mind. Playing hurt is always admirable, and I couldn't figure out the whole LT sitting out bit. Maybe he was hurt too bad to suck it up, or maybe they thought his backup (Turner?) could take up the slack. The longer that dragged out I expected LT to get back out there.
DUHHHHH! Winning is success! Stop being obsessed with stats they can be manipulated to telll many lies. I will take Farve, Bradshaw, Namath and a gunslinger who will dare to be great when it counts over a two yard dumpoff dink and dunk Qb any day of the week. No risk no reward. Give me a Qb who puts it in his own hands as opposed to the kicker!
Rivers is so much better than any Jets QB, I don't even feel compelled to try and argue over it. I would trade all three Jets QB plus BThomas (Once 1st rounder) for Rivers. Even include a 2009 draft pick to be determined. Same deal for Brown's B Quinn or 49er's A Smith. They both will most likely be benchwarmers this season on their teams.
I know that a lot of people think that the San Diego Chargers have the most superlative talent in the NFL, bar none. But if this is true, then why can't they win championships? I have to confess, if A. is true, the B. is really a mystery to me.
Quote: "...Even I could not predict he would be 1-8 by his own doing...." Chad was not the only one who went 1-8 -- I think there was 10 others on offense that had more than a passing acquaintenance with those horrendous losses, not to mention those "Can't-Stop-Anybody-In-The-4th-Qtr" stars of the NYJ D... See, Fourthandlong, this is scapegoating the QB. It's not realistic to blame only just one guy for all those sacks, and those paltry 1.8 second time to pass opportunities, and the lack of a running game, and the inability to stop the run, and the long opponent's passes that killed and maimed the game. If it were really all Chad's fault, because his super powers were effectively Kryptonited out of town, he would not just have sat down at 1 and 8, the CS and the FO would have just cut the guy. Something more is amiss with the NYJ than the QB.
Quote: "...At least give Rivers credit for playing hurt. He could have sat on the bench with LT..." I certainly did in another post of mine.
wasn't it nyjunc who tried to say that namath was over-rated and cited stats to say that noodle arm was better? only problem with that is the only stat that counts is the ring. namath has one , and neither noodle or marino does. despite all the grief he gets, eli has one and noodle doesn't. so, keep up all the 'open competition' talk and try to pump up noodle's trade value. but when the games count, let anyone else start.
Hey, mr nyjet, what can we say, Man? Bottom line, the NYJ are freaking losers, and maybe the worst losers in the NFL, we're still trying to find out. Those of us who have been cheering on these guys from the 1960s forward, well, we know they're losers, but we haven't lost hope that maybe they could be winners, too. There are also an awful lot of Joe Bignino's among us who have been hurt too well and too often not to kvetch as a first reaction to everything. You can't blame their flinching. A sane human being will never get used to being hit when he's not looking. That's what the NYJs have consistently (without fail, almost) done for their fans. But we watch this boy's game with our well-clutched hope for wonderful outcomes. One of the singular bright lights of the NYJ nightmare is that Monday Night that has become the most voted Monday Night Football Game in the history of the NFL on monday night. Those of us who sat there in the wee hours will never forget the tears in Taylor's eyes (he was miked up for the game) in the second half, and how his commentary slowly...strangled...itself. The NYJs are preennial losers, yes they are, but they have had their moments. I for one do believe that the best is yet to come. Hell, I'm still here.
I don't place Chad as high up the list as you may think I might, but I would put him ahead of a few people based on his experience and their lack of experience alone. Year to year that can change. Maybe a guy gets better with time. Rivers certainly still has that on his side, but you never know for sure. I'm probably the type of person that is going to go with a known commodity over taking a risk on people, with the occasional risk now and again. Better than Romo? I would not say that after last year. Romo has more tools. I would say he's rather on par with Brees, though even with a shoulder surgery under his belt Brees has the better arm in that race too.
Uh, Drew Brees is a long ways better than Chad. Brees has thrown for 3000+ yards 5 out of his 7 years in the NFL and 24+ TDs in 4 of those years. He's also thrown for 4000+ yards each of the last two seasons. Chad has thrown for over 3000 yards only twice in 8 years, and the most TDs he's ever thrown in a season was 22 back in 2002. His next best was 17 in 06. These are abysmal numbers for a starting QB.
