Aaron Maybin. He can not play on 1st and 2nd down... yet. He has all the athleticism in the world, his numbers are comparable to Von Miller. He gets washed out on run plays by tackles and guards and would only be a situational passrusher for us year 1, hence Aaron Maybin. He also isnt good in coverage either.
Upshaw is a beast, simply put "He will be feared in the NFL" it would be a tragedy if he is available and the Jets pass on him unless its to take Mark Barron or Trent Richardson of course.
Somewhat, but watching him, I saw a solid football player, and would be happy if the JETS selected him.
I think alot of scouts are looking at Alabama LBs a little differently these days due to so-so performance of Rolando McClain. Highly touted coming out,not much to show for it on the field. I agree with everyone else....the Jets need a pass rusher. If one isn't there, trade down and try to get back that fourth they traded to Denver.
McClain has done well on the field for Oakland. 99tackles and 5sacks is good production from a ILB in any defense. So if Harris like numbers are bad production on the field then the Jets are way over paying him. That said, teams should not discount a prospect because another player from the same school is not living uP to what was projected. If they want to discount a system that's fine. Maybe a player is a great spread option guy but has skills that may not translate to the NFL. Ok, that's fine, but to say bama LBs are going to underachieve because one did is short sighted. Just like the anti-Ohio state attitude around here because of the ghost, never mind the fact that we have a pro bowl caliber center from the same school. They run a pro style 34 defense there. You know how a player is going to look in a 34 coming out. if you want to discount Hightower or upshaw on their play go ahead. To do it because of combine numbers or a school bias is just stupid.
I could've just made it into two words: continuous probability. Somehow I think someone that doesn't understand the concept of continuous probability wasn't going to catch my meaning right off so I kept the unabridged version
If anyone busts it will be the other 2. For every failure at converting there are also success stories.
So does that mean that there is a "....yet" that applies to Maybin on 1st and 2nd down as well? Just tell me yes even if you don't really believe it. Allow me to envision my Utopian Jesus H. Tebow defense for just a minute. Some FS that doesn't Suck Healthy Landry 3 down Maybin Harris Revitalized Scott Curry Revis Cro Wilkerson Pouha Brockers And welcome to never giving up more than 13 points in a game. Edit: what a waste of life...I spaced out their names like it would be on a picture and then the stupid forum auto-aligns the post to the left header. Fml.
This is the reverse Vernon Gholston. A guy who on tape dominates SEC offensive lineman as a pass rusher, run stopper and he's extremely quick in space. Some of his highlights you see a natural football speed that's crazy for a guy that size. Unfortunately this isn't reflected off the football field when he does drills. Bryan Thomas had a great 40 time but he really never had any ability to rush the QB.
I wish Upshaw ran the shuttle. Would be nice to see how his quickness in drills compares to his lackluster down the road speed. I'd imagine he'd be a little quicker than you'd expect from his 40 time watching him play.
I have seen tape where Upshaw looks bad and tape where he looks like a world beater. Based on his consistent production, I am more inclined to believe he'll be very solid against the run and that he'll be a competent, consistent pass rusher. I think he can set the edge, I think he can tackle, and I think he's got a great motor. He seems to have football smarts and maturity. His ability to use strength and leverage and his wide base is something few of these more athletic pass rushers lack. Of all the guys in the draft I think he's the most likely to help us right away on three downs, and I think he has the most tools to be productive. There's no way you can say "I want no part" of that guy. Ultimately, if he's their guy, I would see if trading down was a possibility. Either way, I won't be too disappointed if we grab him. -X-
If we dont get Melvin Ingram then I want Nick Perry if not Perry then Andre Branch if not Branch then grab a DE that can attach the QB like Cox, Brockers or Crick
