Yeah, I know that, but they also desired to have a "modern, fast paced" image and that dovetailed nicely with the other aspect you mentioned.
Couple that with what Bowles said and it's very damning indictment of their philosophy. If W&C Johnson have any brains - so far unproven - they'll fire Bowles.
I don't think the Jets have been "modern" or "fast paced" since the Wesley Walker era. edit: Maybe the Vinny year..
Taken from today's NYDN: http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/f...y-finally-chance-prove-jets-article-1.3696690 So much for preparing your backup QB to step in and run the system seemlessly.
Agreed! And they need to return to that type of play IMO. Even when they lost it was exciting, and you always felt they could win. That said, I don't see that playing that way, and having a good defense are mutually exclusive...in fact that's why they won the only SB they did.
And now Jeremy Kerley is blaming ghosts for his failed drug test. Seriously. This franchise is the gift that keeps on kicking you in the nuts.
His THIRD YEAR with the team mind you behind a 38 yet old injury prone QB in front of him in a year where it’s supposed to be about player development!! You can’t make it up
Sorry to bring this up, but the toughest Jet team I remember was the '81 team that Schula fckd over in the Mud Bowl. That team was stacked!
I agree, and to me, the difference was that Todd was NOT a FQB...he was above average, but not great, and couldn't carry a team on his back. BTW: The Mud Bowl was played in '83: http://turnonthejets.com/2014/01/throwback-thursday-mud-bowl/
Reich would be my top choice. Just a few more names to consider: Darrel Bevel, Mike Shula, and Wisenhunt. For due diligence, I'd bring them in, but none are as appealing as Reich. Wisenhunt falls into the Wade Phillips, Norv Turner mold -- good OC, not a great HC. Bevel isn't so much the OC as Wilson is, but he's got to get some credit for Seattle's consistent success. Shula is the most interesting to me. He's had one of the hardest jobs in the league, managing under Riverboat Ron and managing Cam. Makes me think that it might be easier for him to manage us crazy New York fans/media, and the team. As for on the field credentials, he adjusted the offense to Cam's growth, from protecting him with the running game, to turning him into more-of-a-passer during the MVP/Superbowl year. That's why I think he'd be ready to make the jump to HC. Just another name to consider.
If we got Jackson, Shula would have to be strongly considered. Or looking at from the timeline of how things would likely unfold, if we hired Shula, Jackson would have to be strongly considered.
