Year 2 he had no OL, year 3 he was handed a new QB w/ a montht o go before the season then that QB threw 20+ INTs and had about 10 more fumbles. I really like Brian and I hope he's back either as HC or OC.
If anyone wanted to interview him for a HC position they could do so without us letting him go. There may be interest in him as an OC, but no one is knocking down the doors for him to be there HC.
The Islanders had Mike Milbury and Garth Snow, two hockey guys as GM's for the last 15ish years and we see how far thats gotten them. Hell I quit watching the entire sport becasue that franchise is such a friggen mess. Tanny has been in football for a long time. He hires people in spots to help on the football side and he is very good at the bussiness side of things. I'm not saying its the perfect set up, but not as bad as its beign made out to be. We have a good drafting record under Tanny and have made very good trades for the most part. The interesting thing to see now was how much of the player evaluation was Mangini and how much was the rest of the staff?
Gee whiz if he is so good why have not other teams requested permission to talk to them about there openings?
Would Schotts take a lateral just to get out of NY/NJ? With the expectation being even lower in Detroit than here, this might not be a bad move for him..
What about the times like when they played KC this year and they insisted on being pass happy. I suppose it could have been Mangini telling to do that, but I tend to think Schotty over thinks the situation and it ends up back firing on him. I don't think the Jets need that as a HC right now. They need someone to appeal to their competitive nature to get them to perform. I'm just not convinced he(Schotty) can enforce his will over the players' will.
dont know what makes you think hes such a great candidate. or why you make Rex Ryan sound like a bonehead move. being a HC is about results. and Rex Ryan has not only held his position longer but hes also seen more success than Schotty Jr in their respective positions. i like using double te's singleback sets for run and play action. i like spreading the field and some shotgun. i also like I formation. he used all of this. philosophy, check. playcalling........wtf? and if the whole Mangini handcuffed him thing was true I have a response to that. we never heard anything about them grumbling with eachother or at least a blurb about Schotty Jr trying to implement something Mangini wouldnt allow. Which means if Mangini were handcuffing him, Schotty Jr is a complete twat for not speaking up. If i was an OC id want sustained success on my resume and i wouldnt even let my boss try to stop me from doing what i was hired to do. you dont want me, dont hire me. also, Leon Washington has been underutilized ever since he got here.
The question is, when they hire Ryan as HC, and Schotty wants out, will they let him go, or will they make him stay another year under his contract. Will Ryan have input on this (I would hope so). Will they be able to find someone better to bring in, on relatively short notice (I would think so).
If we're going to hire a Defensive HC prusumably Ryan, what's the point of keeping Shotty if he really is going to be a HC with another team in the next year or two? Wouldn't we be better off building with a new staff that would have some continuity 3,4 and 5 years down the line when we might be in a position to really compete? The only reason to not allow the new HC to hire his own OC is is Favre comes back because of Shotty. If we're starting over with a young QB and Shotty is a HC next year we are better off bringing in a completely new staff. I think they want to keep Shotty to take another run with Favre in the PSL year. They don't see that this team is still rebuilding and they still have a win now attitude going into the PSL year in a bad economy. Woody is Daniel Snyder on roids. I bet Spags isn't being considered because he wants to hire his own staff and that means no Favre and a rebuild. Shotty is either a good young coach who is ready to be a HC or he is a fraud of an OC right now. Based on the leaks from both sides, Tannenbuam and Mangini loyalists, we really don't know the answer? In either case if we are going to hire Rex Ryan, we should unload SHotty.
I agree with most of this with the exception of being better off with a new OC if we go with one of the younger QB's. They've been in the same system for 1,2,or 3 years now. I would assume that keeping that system would help one of the younger guys succeed more than having them learn a new system. This is the main reason I want to keep Schotty. I don't think he's a great play caller, but I think with some guidance by a good HC he could be much better.
Based on how Shotty brought along Clemens, he might deserve to be canned on that alone. If we're going to build our team around D we need an O that can play smash mouth not hide the winnie.
I agree. My thinking is that the head coach needs to be able to get Schotty to commit to the run and cut the bullshit play calling on 3rd and 4th and shorts. You can stay with the same system, just make the play calling more run oriented/smash mouth. By changing systems I think you're basically throwing away years of development.
If that was the case moving up and giving up a pick for Keller made no sense. We don't have a blocking TE on the team now and Keller becomes a part time player on a running team. I think we have to give up the system and run the ball and throw it down field rather than matriclating down the field on short slant passes which seems to be Shotty's MO.
