Getting Cooper to go with Harvin and Decker and do something to help our oline and we are almost there offensively with a QB to lead them.
If we could get a QB to throw a competent pass then even if we lose Harvin that's a pretty good receiving core with Cooper.
I say draft Cooper and cut Harvin now. Harvin will not play this week and is due 10.5M next year. Plus if Harvin is on the roster next draft, the 6th round pick for him could become a 4th round pick. Add in Harvin has already stated he will not take a pay cut.
Not necessarily. The Jets have so much cap space that they might not really find a good way to use it all. Overpaying Harvin for one year might be worth it, if the alternative is to just roll more money forward. The Jets can't really afford a 5 or 6 win season, they want to start winning again even if that means over investing a bit on someone who isn't a long term answer. On the other hand, the 4th round pick is a significant loss, and maybe we could use Harvin's money to bring in someone who could be a longer term fit. I could see it happening either way.
Harvin will be probably gone, I can't see a new GM wanting to keep him, way too expensive and it would cost the Jets a 4th rd pick. Harvin will have to take a discount with his next team. Harvin just doesn't command the money of elite WRs. It's impossible to know the Jets move in the 1st Rd of the draft, not knowing the Coach and GM. I'd like to see a Offensive minded Coach who would consider Cooper. Cooper would be an immediate upgrade at the WR position and initially cost a lot less, than Harvin, due to the current structure of 1st rd picks.
I agree on Winston, though I'd entertain it. Plenty of diva WRs make it in the NFL. I think DGB has all the talent in the world, and I'll take that at the WR position. At the QB position, I want a guy with the work ethic and the drive to be successful. Winston might have that, but he also might not. There's a lot more that can go wrong when you take a QB with question marks than a WR. That's my opinion at least. There's probably also something humbling about not being considered the best anymore. Though it might fall on deaf ears with either of these players.
