Because Rodger Goodells NFL composes of 90% QB, and 10% everybody else. The Jets having success under Rex is an anomaly. People can think what theyd like but the fact is who did people think the best coaches are ? Belicheck, Payton, Dungy (lol), McCarthy. These guys arent the best fucking coaches, these are all guys who either inherited or got incredibly lucky with incredibly talented QBs. And in Goodells NFL the QB is more important than everybody else on the field combined.
If Lee Evans makes that catch they do lose. If ravens make that chip shot they may lose. Luck does have a little to do with making the SB.
Belichick is legit, I think he's everything people say he is as a coach. Brady is over-rated. Still better than any QB the Jets have had during his career, but not best all time caliber the way some people say.
Disagree completely. He puts a hell of a product on the field without stars at a majority of positions. I hate the guy, but I think he's in the discussion for best coach of all time. Brady is great, but I think he's the overrated one.
A bad sign for Dungy's coaching legacy was when his successor Jon Gruden took his players to a championship the following year after Dungy had failed to do so with the same talent.
No but you said how could anyone say coaching is overrated...so I brought up the point that if coaching isnt overrated then I guess Jim Caldwell is a top coach because he is 1 of 3 coaches to take their team to the Super Bowl over the last 3 years. Its all about the players, not the coaches.
It was silly on your part. You think coaching is overrated? Go look at the 1996 Jets and then go look at the 1997 Jets. Yes, Gruden came to Tampa Bay from another franchise and won when the previous coach did not. That is notable. When George Seifert won a Super Bowl his first year as head coach and Caldwell reached a Super Bowl his first year as head coach it was not as special. Why? Because Seifert and Caldwell had already been with their respective teams. They were elevated from assistant coaches to the head coaching job.
to me the lose represents the end of the brady-bb era success THANK GOD....its all downhill from here....afc E is gonna be interesting i think its anyones division in 2012
There are very few great coaches in the NFL at this point. It takes a long time to get there and this is a win-now league at the moment. If I had to do a ranking of who the greats are that are coaching right now it might only have one guy on the list: the guy who has been to five Super Bowls and won three of them. Yeah, he's never been to a SB without Tom Brady but he drafted Brady after all and was smart enough not to let Drew Bledsoe re-take the job when he got healthy again.
This. People forget how much pressure there was on Belichick to go with Bledsoe, too. He was considered a great QB at the peak of his career in 2001. It would have been like the Texans starting AJ Yates against Baltimore if Matt Schaub was ready to play. It's also hard to have a passing offense that's scoring 25-30 points a game when you play outdoors in the NE/MW, and that's been the Pats offense for a decade plus. Their running game has never been all that great. Moreover, Belichick's got to his last 2 SBs largely with a smoke-and-mirrors D. I don't know a lot of teams that would even make it to the playoffs with a defense that bad. At times, they had part-time WR/STer Edelmann playing DB!!! Norv Turner couldn't even get the Chargers to 9-7 and the AFCW title with a defense in the top half of the league and a top ten offense!
The last time Brady missed the entire season the Pats finished with 3 more wins than the Jets did this year with the #5 overall QB.
The Jets with the #5 overall QB finished the 2010-2011 season with more wins than Brady in the 09-10 season. Mark Sanchez since he entered the league has less playoff losses and more wins than Tom Brady. He also has head 1-0 record in the playoff against Brady.Cherry picking numbers with no relevance is fun.
I've heard this too many times before. Unless Brady dislocates his kneecap in a freak off-season yachting accident, the Pasts win the AFC East again next season. If Mallett turns out to be shit then we're back in with a shout of the division.
When did BB and Brady announce their retirements? With two 1st round draft picks, two 2nd round draft picks and a ton of money to spend on FA's, the Pats will be much better next year and have the AFCE wrapped up by Thanksgiving. Good luck on that 6th seed WC next year.
