There is only 1 person who can make Tebow the starter in New York and it's not the owner, coach, GM, or anyone (everyone) in the media... and that person's name is MARK SANCHEZ. All Mark has to do is win. Simple that's it. If Mark wins Tebow will never take over in New York... if Mark fails to win then HE HAS MADE TEBOW THE STARTER and TEBOW SHOULD BE THE STARTER. Mark got 1 mulligan that was last year. The time has come for him to win in the NFL. Tanny and Ryan's jobs are likely riding on this year if Mark can't do it then they will go with someone who might be able to do it in Tebow.
Dude, "throwing skills" encompasses a wide variety of things. I stipulated that his overall mechanics were sound, but that other aspects of his "throwing skills" were questionable his first year. Go back and look at that season. It wasn't like Aikman was consistently putting up 300 yard games while his defense was blowing it for him. Against Washington: 6 of 21 Comp % 28.6 83 yards, 0 TDs 2 INTs Against Philly: 7 of 21 Comp % 33.3 54 yards, 0 TDs 3 INTs Against the Giants: 11 of 22 Comp % 50.0 84 yards, 0 TDs 1 INTs. In 6 of his 11 games as a starter, Aikman had a QB rating of below 41, and 2 of those games his rating was single digits.
let try it this way? How many QB with the MECHANICS Tebow has right now turn into a good starter? Good luck finding one who was even drafted.
Tebow has had shitty throwing mechanics since college. Still does. His extent of throwing is based on gimicky systems double PA reverses etc etc. Its no coincidence the offensive staff in denver felt their best chance at winning involved 1920s football and a few shotgun snaps Then people want to point to throws he makes after a defense is lulled to sleep by his lack of consistency I just don't get the infatuation. Im sure he can contribute but I cringe at the invetiable talk of tebow playing qb here when I simply don't think he can develop enough as a passer. If anyone works hard enough to prove his critics wrong its tebow. I don't plan on eating that crow though. Time for sanchez to get it all together and silence any talk of tebow taking his job
I agree but no matter how hard u work if u don't have it then u don't have it. Players that are good work hard to become great they can't work hard to become great when ur not good to start with.
I'll rephrase the question to be, "what QBs with bad mechanics turned into a good starter?" Fair enough ? Bernie Kosar ? Or how about Philip Rivers ? Or Byron Leftwhich ? I was one of those who said that Tebow shouldn't have changed his throwing motion to begin with. But, he did, and they continue to work on it. He wasn't the first QB to have his mechanics worked on/overhauled and he won't be the last. That said, even once you "learn" the mechanics, it takes time and thousands upon thousands upon thousands of reps for the new mechanics to get burned into muscle memory and become second nature.
I dunno who your referring to sanchez or tebow. I for one have faith in sanchez even though im on the fence. Tebow on the other hand I don't see as a viable long term answer at qb for anyone
All those u mention where all known as throwing QB in college. We both know Tebow was not that in college. Plus none of those QB they even tryed to fix there mechanics.
Fox was a mixed bag. The offense they constructed was the one they thought best for the team. It was run heavy, which is something Fox likes anyways, and it was designed so that every drive was supposed to end up with a kick, either a FG, a PAT, or a punt. The thing that they keyed on was trying to limit turnovers. Seriously, go back and watch some games and see what happened in the 4th Q of most of them. Broncos were behind, went away from the overly conservative play calling, came out in the shotgun with 3,4 and 5 receivers and Tebow would light things up. Yes, he still had some problems with consistency, but that should take care of itself with time and more repetitions. I'd have loved to see Tebow running the offense that Chudzinski put in place in Carolina.
I'm talking about Tebow. I also have faith in Sanchez. Plus it wouldn't surprise me when camps are done that Tebow is the 3rd string QB.
The reason I have little expectation that Tebow will succeed is that he's not only got poor mechanics, but he has not been able to develop better ones despite being in a good football program in college and two years with an NFL team. If he has not developed by now, why will he do so in the few months between now and opening day? Tebots - that is a rhetorical question, meaning don't try to answer it. You will only hurt yourselves and not answer it.
Let's just stick to those drafted in this century. Rivers' delivery about 3/4 arm I think. It was a concern about him coming out of college, but it hasn't affected his accuracy at all. Of course, having learned to read defenses helped him, too. You do realize that Byron Leftwich is/was a bust, right? Not a good choice.
#1 Jet's Fan, If you are seriously claiming that Tebow wasn't known as a throwing QB in college, then it's rather obvious that you didn't watch Tebow playing in college. Yes, he ran the ball in college, but it's not like he was Tommy Frazier running the wishbone at Nebraska. Florida ran the Spread Option. It was roughly a 55 / 45 split between rushing and passing. Every year that Tebow played, Florida had more passing yards than rushing yards. Just some stats for comparison. Tebow: 661 - 995, 66.4 Comp %, 9285 yards, 9.3 ypa, 88 TDs 16 INTs Peyton Manning: 863 - 1381, 62.5 Comp %, 11201 yards, 8.1 ypa, 89 TDs 33 INTs. Tebow didn't pass as much as Peyton did, but he still passed quite a bit and was very good at it. The knock/question about Tebow coming out of college wasn't that he COULDN'T pass. Rather, it was that he wasn't "NFL accurate", i.e. couldn't hit the tight NFL passing windows, and that his elongated delivery was too slow. That it would give defenders extra time to jump routes/close to the ball, and also, make him more susceptible to strip sacks or having the ball knocked out of his hands.
Something that Brian Billick talked about on NFLN comes to mind. He pointed out that Tebow didn't have the same freedom to fail that other young QBs generally have. Short version: QBs like Christian Ponder and Blaine Gabbert were tagged as the starters and given support. They were allowed to go out and make mistakes and to try and learn from them. Basically, when you have young QBs like that, wins and losses aren't as important that season. It's very similar to year 1 of a "rebuild". The Broncos didn't approach things that way. They crafted the offense to try and win games.
here the thing ur not seeing or don't want to see. All those young QB has the mechanic to make it in the NFL Tebow does not. Don't get me wrong I'm not rooting against Tebow but I'm looking at this as Tebow the QB and I just don't see it. U keep throwing up stats but they don't mean a thing.
