"Asked how his life has changed since being drafted, Darnold laughed and said, "A lot [more] followers" on social media. The fan base, hungry for a franchise quarterback, has embraced him."

Yeah, that "no social media" thing was way too good to be true.

The kid is humble and reserved, so I have no clue why some might perceive he has anointed himself a FQB already. Far from it. Furthermore, the only piece of Jets literature he needs to read is the freaking playbook.....from cover to cover. Jets history at this point is nothing but a continuous sequence of unfortunate events and irrelevant since Namath days, way before he was even born. Furthermore his personality is perfect for the NY media , he says little knowing full well that only one thing matters, they will kiss his ass if he becomes a winner, and crucify him if he doesn't, good guy or not.

If we would have picked Mayfield this would be an issue, with what I've seen out of Sam he seems humble.
Nacho was told he was the Sanchize from day one. Hopefully Sam has a killer work ethic and a competitive streak a mile wide. Let's hope him and the receivers we have mesh and play well together.
I see what you are saying, I just think Sam is the polar opposite of what you are afraid of. Atleast I hope I'm right.

    So far, GREAT!!!!!

I'm absolutely LOVNG everything I'm reading so far from Darnold saying he has to come in here and earn respect to the Jets saying he'll get a opportunity to be the week 1 starter.

Darnold has to be told that there is a portion of this fanbase that live under a constant state of woe is me. They're always waiting for the other foot to drop and the bad in every situation. They're called same old jet fans. He should be warned so that he can address the media with that in mind. So dont do GQ fashion shoot before your first camp, they'll never forget it, will think it has some crazy effect over your career.

OK, that will help his career

fwiw the way Darnolds social media account is "run" sort of leads me to believe it's probably his agent or something at the wheel. He definitely doesn't seem very social media savvy and that's a good thing.

The stuff he does have on it is super tame and benign. Some are ads, which you pretty much have to do considering how fleeting an NFL career can be.

The one key things that I need to see from Darnold that Sanchez just couldn't do is learn from his mistakes and just grow and develop as a QB. Pre snap reads, going through your progressions, not being baited into certain throws, never having any sense of the time he had in the pocket, keeping the football safe(he has to learn this) That and Sanchez had naturally poor accuracy in the pros

Darnold is already ahead of the game. He's 3 years younger than Sanchez was when we drafted him but has a much better understanding of the game itself than Sanchez. Plus I love his god given Roethlisberger like ability to flat out make miracle plays out of nothing.

His arm strength is good, not great, but again at 20 it's definitely still likely to improve.

The more I watch of Darnolds tape the more I see an offensive line that really hung him out to dry.

You lost me on this line. Any time Geno opened his mouth, he sounded like a joke. He was as good in interviews as he was on the field. Which was terrible.

I never understood this either. He wasn't polished or poised. He always sounded very fake to me. Fake and dumb.

And who could forget those 3 and 10 sacks he'd take to lose 25 yards and take us out of FG range. This guy would literally run BACKWARDS.

Are you saying that Jeter was interesting because he was getting hot ass?

Or are you saying that Jeter must have been interesting bc he got so much hot ass?

I’m not sure which is more wrong.

Here's what he needs to do to succeed to NY:
    1. Win.
    2. Come and work hard every day.
    3. Don't give the media anything that will come back to haunt him.
    4. Win.
