This seems somewhat obvious, but why do people think they can coach a team better than the coaching staff. "Move this guy here, change this guy to this, acquire that" I would assume Mangini's multimillion dollar paycheck would have your name on it if you were as bright as he.
It is blantantly obvious from everyone that we don't have the personel for a 3-4, the results on the field clearly show that, and based on what you are saying the coach is never wrong because they know more than you do, which is ridiculous
That pro bowl stuff for JV is malarky. He made it there as a REPLACEMENT for Zach he was NOT voted in
Second guessing the coach is just fine. If they were always right, we'd win every game like the Jags walloped us yesterday. This business of moving Vilma and Robertson to the outside, or changing defense schemes in the middle of a season, really?
That reminds me, Zach is a full 2" shorter than Vilma and he's done pretty well for himself. There's no reason Vilma can't be a successful MLB/ILB at his size.
hahaha dude youre new around here and thats all good and everything, but thats the dumbest thing ever said on this board.....hahahah, yeah offensive soordinators sit around all week trying to figure out how to avoid jon vilma in their passing attack....hes not even a factor against the run right now no less the pass:rofl:
enough about last year whether thats a true "pro bowl" selection or not....the truth of the matter is that champ has been on vilma a lot...and sometimes unfairly.....BUT all you guys with the manlove for jon, should at least take a step back here and admit that he has sucked moose balls so far this year
Vilma= 6'1 230 Other great ILB's: Ray Lewis= 6'1 250 Zach Thomas-= 5'11 225 Al Wilson= 6'0 240 Now Vilma is about the same size as all of these guys just weighs a little less, but he's also still only 24. As he gets older he will put on more weight and become a smarter player instead of the flashy player he is now running all over the place.
The whole defense has sucked this year. It all starts up front. If the DL isn't doing their job, the LB's can't do theirs. None of the LB's have made any impact plays since the DL isn't holding their own. I don't expect you to understand that concept though since all you do is badmouth the guy. And if you want to talk about the "truth of the matter". The guy played in the PB last year. Saying he isn't a probowler when he played in the game is an incorrect statement. That is FACT as champ so eloquently likes to say and can not be argued.
vilma has never been a playmaker on defense.. He gets tackle after tackle after tackle. so if you ask me hes doing just fine.
Gee, people. Grow up, and have some patience. Will ya? I am still holding onto what I said months ago: As long as they come out competing, I would be happy. That would mean I was particularly upset over yesterday's effort, but so what. Remember, this team is REBUILDING. Don't go into "We-win-10-and-go-to-playoff-this-year" hype. This team may go into playoffs, Ok, I can give you that. What does that prove? Does this mean this team is that good to contend already, after one measly draft and off season? Will you please WAKE UP??? It simply proves this team is the beneficiary of very, VERY soft schedule. So what can they accomplish in the playoffs? First round exit? Maybe second round? Go figure. This franchise will NOT win anything big this year. This team is so lacking at the trenches that I don't even want to mention again about how far this team is off from being a good franchise. Ok, the attention is completely on NT position, but OL doesn't fare any better, keep that in mind. They were able to pull off just enough to protect Chad, and they couldn't even do that yesterday. Blocking for running? Don't even go there. You've all seen how atrocious the running has been. Ok, we don't have the kind of "feature" back a la Martin, but not having the kind of run blocking doesn't help the cause either. I think the rebuilding would be done in 2 more seasons. (2 years shorter than my original expectation - Mangini is actually fantastic, from my point of view.) The offense isn't that far off - they just need to fix up the OL, and draft a franchise RB. Other pieces are already there - Pennington can deadly as anyone, if given the time and protection. Coles/Cotchery are growing into nice WR tandem *and not every franchise has that option.* Also, I guess the TEs are there as well, and half the OL is drafted this spring, signalling some bright future ahead. The defense needs more help though - they would need day-1 draft quality players in 2 OLBs and NT, and it takes time to raise them to fit in NFL scheme. I still have some doubt over the secondaries, but if the front seven can generate enough pressure, that can be helped. (As it has been witnessed more than enough.) The thing is, the front 7 MUST get to the quarterback, and current Jet squad doesn't have the kind of personnel to do that. This is the issue that must be addressed first and foremost, come the draft time. Also, I think Vilma is the least of the worries, so don't even go there. With the proper personnel around, and with sufficient experience in the scheme, he will be just fine. Does this mean I would like to see them in 4-3 these days? Absolutely not. It takes time to learn a new scheme, and I seriously doubt if they can absorb every little details and intricacy involved in the new scheme in one measly preseason. It might be hurting now, but would be better to just learn the new scheme on the fly, as they are doing now. Once they get better at it, they can also help the new comers as well, so I am not against struggling 3-4. The worst thing the CS can possibly do is to revert back to 4-3, as that would mean they have accepted that the time and effort they have put in since last spring is completely wasted. No, I won't accept that. Ok, so here's what I think the Jets should do with the drafts: With day 1 picks (we have like 4, right? 1/2/2/3) I'd love to see them go after the defense first. (DT/OLB/OLB) With the last 3rd rounder, if they can grab a road-grading OG, that would make my day. Then, on the next draft, if the draft pans out well, like it has this year, they only have to worry about selecting RB in 1st rd. After that, they can basically go for BPA. *Sounds like a plan to me, but then I am homerish at times so...*
