RT is a concern but I still think we'll be in the playoff hunt. Not pressing the panic button yet, no way.
the giant starters did not kick the jets ass.sanchez through a horrible pick that gave the points.eli threw a horrible pick that the jets didnt capitalize.both offense were doing next to nothing. i feel good about this season based on what i havent seen yet.no playaction,no adjustments to help the pass pro, no wildcat.i still have faith in this c.s. if they come out sept 9th and the offense looks anemic then i will be the first to call for heads to roll
i also feel good about this team IF they upgrade some key areas, RT, WR depth, new punter. All of which are extremely achievable and likely to occur. So I'm not panicking yet. In fact I won't panic until 8 weeks into the season if we are down and out @ sub .500. by 3 or more games. Panicking heading into week 3 of the preseason when the final roster hasn't been set is ridiculous and a waste of energy. However there of course is legitimate cause for concern at a couple of positions.
Well thats great for you to feel that way but that's based on personal feelings and faith. You had those feelings in May before the team laced them up. If you were to go by what you saw on the field, which tangibly is all we have right now, there is nothing to feel good about.
I assume he meant the Giants D as their O did nothing but we moved the ball against their D but some penalties and sacks ended drives.
I don't go by what I see in preseason especially w/ a good % of our O not on the field. if they play like this in the reg season then I may change my mind. I can't understand how anyone would be panicked over what we have seen when so many pieces haven't even played w/ the starting offense and it's PRESEASON. Are the Giants alarmed their starting O put up 6 pts on us and one was b/c of penalties? were they alarmed last year when they scored 3 on us?
I'm fairly optimistic despite our injury issues and poor pre-season so far. I think winning the division is out of our grasp but I definitely think we can finish 2nd and claim a wild card spot. Only way we win the division is if the Patriots sustain some really big injuries (obviously an injury to Brady being the most deadly) and there is just as much chance or more (with WFH still in the lineup) that Sanchez goes down to injury as Brady. I appreciate your enthusiasm though and I really, really hope your are right. Should make for a kickass year if that's the case. For me just returning to the playoffs and then seeing what happens would be good enough to me.
Thing is, at the end of the day, we don't know a damned thing about the offense really. These games haven't given us any insight into what kind of offensive system Sparano is putting on the field this year. We don't know jack about the ability of his scheme, his play design, his ability to call plays, the ability of the team to execute those plays, or his ability to make adjustments to what the opposing defense is doing. Yes, key players have been missing, Hunter has been a problem, the line hasn't spent a lot of time together as a cohesive unit, yada, yada, yada. BUT, we have no idea how things will be once our "playmakers" get back on the field, once Hunter either gets better or Sparano schemes things differently, and once the line has practiced together as a unit. I'm not down on the team based on 2 preseason games, but on the other hand, I haven't seen anything that would make me overly optimistic either. There's just still waaaaaay too much that we don't know/haven't seen.
Yeah. I gotta agree. It has been scary so far. Our offensive line has me the most worried. We can't run to save our life!!! Sanchez already has one pick six in the bag for the year.......I know, preseason, but I think we will see it again. The throw he got picked on was just a horrible pass; never should have been thrown and the mechanics were awful. He does not look like a QB going into his 4th year at all. If he is pressured regularly during the season becase of the line's inabilty to protect the QB, he may have his worst year ever thus far. It also will be tough with a lackluster running game. When a big burly John Conner can't even make a yard because of our line, there are eye-glaring issues. Without the run, Sanchez is also doomed for a tough year because of no balnace in the attack. Run all the trick plays and Wildcat you want; in the end, it won't really matter. Our defense will generally be pretty good this year......I think, but it is hard to judge right now. We may be able to keep things close in some of the games this year, but there will be many disappointments. I am new to the board. Just a girl who likes the Jets, but I think we are in for a tough year. I think 8-8 at the very best. I think the core theme the whole year will be poor offensive line play, especially by one player, and Sanchez having little time in the pocket before getting pancaked. Turnovers will be an issue this year, just like last. You have to also factor in learning a new offensive scheme..........I hope Sparanno works out OK, but I do have doubts there as well. Gees, I hate calling it like I see it. This year could start the tipping point in the Rex Ryan era..........I also do not want to see this either. I think Rex is an awesome coach and really would like to see him have a lasting tenure here. The Jets need it for consistency sake. We have gone through coaches like butter the last 20 years. I would like to see somebody stay awhile. As for Tebow; at least he looks like he can take a pounding, but his game management and passing ability are issues. He may even find himself in there for a few full games this year because Mark could get hurt. Nevertheless, he will see action almost every game and might dazzle us with some interesting plays throughout the year. I hope we establish him as a Wildcat QB who can throw..........if a defense does not respect that, we will become too predictable and unidimensional.
I think Greene, Kerley and Mcknight are better players than the picture people are painting. Are they All-Pro players? ... certainly not. But they all have talent and should make positve plays for us all year. Mix them in with Holmes, Tebow and keller (and hopefully Hill) and I don't think the O will be awful ... I think it will be servicable, as long as Sanchez doesn't completely shit the bed. If the D plays the way I expect it to, we should be in every game with a chance to win at the end.
all things being considered, I'm not totally in panic mode and I understand the op's position and some others................however the overall O line play and the continued happy feet panicked look about Sanchez's drop backs look eerily similar to how last year went..so that is what I'm most worried about. I think the defense will be better than last year and will play much better when the real games start than they've shown in preseason so far, so I'm optimistic about them. and they should have kept Weatherford last year, we all know this..fairly consistent reliable punters are not that easy to come by....but that's not a major concern for me right now
Welcome to the board! Don't be afraid to state your opinion like you just did as your view is as valid as any other on the site. The guys around here can get a bit rough so please don't be put off should you see some of it. Especially after losses..
I'll feel great about our team, once we have a new punter, our receivers get healthy, and Wayne Hunter is back on the bench, or waivers, where he belongs.
Thanks Cman......no problems. That is quite a avatar you have there. I guess there is a sexist side to the board as well. But it is all good.................is it not? And I do not mean for me either; just sayin'.
Before the preseason even begn I was on record saying this is " the least pumped / optimistic " I have EVER remembered being goIng into a season ! My expectations are very very low,,,,,so if the team does shock me,,,,I guess I will be giddy . This said our off line scares me,,,, our wr scare me ,,,,,our qb needs to step up from game 1 on,,,,,,,,and our LbS scare me,,,,,,the 2 preseason games did nothing to squash this bad feeling I have,,,hopefully that changes but I expect the worst
Well, at least we won't play like a Kotite coached Jets team. Let me tell ya, that was truly as scary as it gets in football.
^Come to think of it, I think we won all our preseson games the first year he was here and then went 3-13. The next year, was infinitely worse. So, lets hope for a contrarian redemption as the season gets underway.
my questions to those who are worried because of the preseason is this:do you really think the jets are going to leave the rt on an island against a jpp caliber pass rusher when the games count?do you think the game plan is going to be some simple runs off tackles against a team with a top front 4 and short routes with no play action? i believe they used the first 2 games to get some one on one match ups on tape to see where the strengths and weakness' are in order to draw up better schemes when its time to play for real.i expext sunday to show a little of what the real playbook will look like. i expect to see the t.e. lined up on the right helping hunter and releasing,i expect to see the pocket rolled left, more screens and alot more play action.
Hope your right, but I do not think I can remember a worse first 2 pre-season games by the NYJ in quite some time. Even our special teams are not playing well. Is shanking punts, part of our prep for the season? Sorry, did not mean to be sarcastic.
