Mariota is a system QB and he has never played in a pro style offense. We should never ever draft him. We should draft a kicker in the first round as it is the safest pick. I wouldn't mind drafting a punter either. Enough comedy so far. My choice of QB is Winston. But if he is gone and Mariota is there at 6, you gotta be an idiot to pass him. If the price isn't that crazy I wouldn't mind trading up for our QB in the first round either. This is a QB league. You go as far as your QB goes. Look at Denver. They shit the bed once Peyton shit the bed. Look at Brady. He made Bellicheat look like genius for all those years. Seriously, you gotta draft a QB every year until you hit the jackpot. And this year's grand prizes are Winston and Mariota. You gotta pick one if they are there at 6. I doubt it though. I seriously doubt they will be there at 6 and I doubt Jets will trade up. Let's hope our new OC can work some magic with Geno as it looks like our most realistic option. By the way Stokes. All 101 trying to say is if Gailey can get from Geno what he got from Fitzpatrick, it will be a good day. I agree 100%. Okay you are awesome and all but please try to understand what the guy is trying to say.
First you say, "We should never ever draft him" Then you say, "Mariota is there at 6, you gotta be an idiot to pass him", "You gotta pick one if they are there at 6." and "I wouldn't mind trading up for our QB in the first round either." Comedy. So you're saying, don't draft him but draft him.
Propping up a flawed player to feign success is fools gold. Ryan Fitzpatrick should not be living in a $10 million penthouse. Chan Gailey bought that for him. And he was cut less than 18 months later. _
I don't care how he wins if he wins. That's what I'm getting at. He can be Weekend at Bernie's out there if he's winning games. If it convinces us to pay him a crap load of money, that's a different story. But if Chan Gailey can hide those flaws, I don't care how "bad" of a QB he is if he's playing well and we're winning.
You realize that fools gold only gets you so far, right? Hiding flaws is not going to win us a Super Bowl, it's going to get us bounced in the first round repeatedly. And perpetuate a crap QB persona. Like Ryan Fitzpatrick. I'd rather Chan Gailey spend his (and our) time on a worthy canvas. But that's just me. If folks here are hoping we prop up a flawed player and hide his weaknesses so we can sneak into the playoffs and get summarily bounced, I guess that's as good as some fans aspire to. _
And you should understand that 101 is 100% wrong. As a franchise you don't want to take chicken shit, throw in some cardamom, cumin, masala, leeks, preserved lemons, cinnamon, cilantro and olives into a clay pot and make tagine (yes, I'm making chicken tagine on Monday), you want to take a piece of prime steak and treat it accordingly. If we pass on Mariota or Wilson because we think Gailey can make Geno Fitzpatrick 2.0, what the fuck have we accomplished? Everyone eating my tagine will eventually have explosive diarrhea. Are you happy now? _
Well my first thought is that Geno had the talent to succeed and maybe just needs the right coach to bring that out. I hardly see that as fool's gold to begin with. And hiding flaws absolutely can win a Super Bowl. That's if the flaws stay hidden. If they get exposed then people will see it for what it is. But I prefer to think that if Gailey gets Geno playing well, then we can optimistically say Geno turned a corner. Your philosophy dictates that no matter what Geno does, you have to take the glass half empty approach... AKA SOJ. I'm on board with Mariota, but I think you're going too far with this. You're already trying to say that even if Geno plays well, he's not actually playing well.
And I'm not saying pass on Mariota or Winston. I'm only saying Geno might turn a corner under Gailey, and at that point, that's nothing but a good problem to have.
Of course I am not happy Stokes you know me. But what if Tampa Bay and Tennessee pick up Mariota and Winston? Won't we expect Gailey to do his best with Geno?
Lol. Don't you dare call me a SOJ with that weak sauce. You either think he's a SB QB or you do not. No amount of hiding his flaws will change that. If you want Gailey and this organization to waste time and effort on a flawed player because you think he can miraculosly win ONE SB, then you deserve what you get. We need a franchise QB that can make us competitive year in and year out so that we make the playoffs EVERY year and one year get fortunate enough that the cards fall perfectly and we win the whole damn thing. But maybe Gailey can prop up Geno to look like Ryan Fitzpatrick. _
I don't do hypotheticals. I need one of those QBs. Wouldn't be an issue if fucking Idzik had taken Teddy or Carr last year. I guess that's a retrospective hypothetical. So sue me I'm a lawyer. You'll lose. _
The problem is, Fitzpatrick "turned the corner" under Gailey, took down $60 million in cap space and was cut less than 18 months later. That's not a good problem. That's a bad solution to a bad problem. _ _
You still aren't getting the point. Let me break it down to the simplest level. The point is, Gailey is able to take the strengths of his players and incorporate it in his system - look at the draft position of those players and see if they are having success w/out Gailey. That is a sign of a good coordinator. No, fucking of course I don't want a Ryan Fitzpatrick for the long-run. I want a good coordinator that can take the strengths of our players and make it work.
You still didn't get the point - I am 100% right actually and my post above already goes into what I was saying. I noticed you go on these tandrams also that put you way out of topic. My chicken phrase is giving credit to the coordinator. Dude you go so far south in your posts it's to the point where we aren't even talking about the same thing. Comprehend what I am saying.
And the thing is, it doesn't even HAVE to be Geno Smith - I want to win games and we need to get this offense in order. I don't want Geno Smith behind center, but say we draft a QB - I don't want that guy coming in too early. Let Gailey get whatever he can get out of Geno Smith (or whomever else). Hell maybe SOMEHOW you generate some trade value.
I don't know how you can say you're not talking SOJ. Look at your attitude about Geno. You're already saying he sucks, but if he ends up having a good season under Gailey, he still sucks. AND that the coaching staff and front office won't be able to tell if they're just propping up Geno, so they'll spend a boat load of cash to hang on to fool's gold. Right now, everything you're saying is 100% a SOJ mentality. Look, I support drafting Mariota. I don't want Cooper and I've made that clear. All I'm saying is getting something out of Geno whether we get Mariota or not IS NOT A BAD THING. To assume that it is, as you are insisting on, is SOJ attitude no matter how you slice it. I support your desire for Mariota, and there's nothing that Gailey is going to do with Geno before the draft that says not to draft him. They're not going to say, "we have Gailey, so we don't need a QB," if that is your concern. Sit back, relax, and realize that if Mariota is there, and they think he's a potential franchise QB, they WILL take him, because Geno has done nothing to prove that he could be that guy. But it doesn't rule him out from being that guy either.
I am pretty sure I will lose as you are a great lawyer but seriously Stokes, how is an OC turning an average QB around a bad thing? I don't expect much from Geno either since I think he doesn't have a high football IQ but if we can't get Mariota or Winston I would pray for Gailey to turn Geno around.
