His work in this thread pushed me past my breaking point. He's joined Al Dorow and 1-2 others on my ignore list.
You make a fair point about arguing from one pick that this does not mean the one making the pick sucks at everything. Fair enough. But it is also true, unlike for the D, that Rex has no track record whatsoever of success running an offense or picking players for the offense. I still, with increasing reluctance, consider myself a Ryan fan. But it is getting harder, and it's a real issue that is a concern. Either Ryan develops a talent evaluating players and prospects on O, or we have an HC who should not be involved in that process.
Kyle Wilson is not playing at the level you would expect of a first round pick. He may not be a bust, but it was not a great pick.
No but not every 1st round pick is going to be a star player. For a 30th overall pick he is solid. People would be higher on him if he was playing corner on the outside and not in the slot. Also he had a better season than the corner drafted ahead of him McCourty.
I don't know. Leon hasn't set the world on fire for Seattle as a running back, but he's definitely come back from his injury better than you'd expect and he had some big plays in the return game. (screw it tried to cut and paste his stats but the formatting sucks). He had 53 rushing attempts for 248 yds (4.7 ypc), 1 TD, with a long run of 48 yards last year. Personally, I'd call it a wash. I think Connor is a good player, but I also don't tend to watch the fullback much.
What roles can John Conner play on the 2012 Jets? Does he play in the standard set? Does he play in the spread? Does he play in the wildcat? Does he play on special teams? With the 53 man roster and particularly with all the corners the Jets are likely to keep he's fighting for a spot based on what he can do for them. Nick Bellore might get the nod over him just because he does all the things that Conner does in the list above and also can play LB.
I would answer yes to everything other than the spread, and who knows how often we'll even run that. I highly doubt a converted lb is going to be nearly as effective of a blocker as Conner.
This right here. Baker is good at chipping DL off the LOS, catching and decent with the ball in his hands. Each time I've seen him in the backfield he gets blown up or rushers run right around him. Conner could get better in pass pro and could improve on reading the front 7. But when he blocks, he gets the job done. Id be shocked if they cut a prototype leadblocker like him in sparanos offense.
Really? He was pretty darn good last season and it was only his second season. I have high hopes for this year.
I Think Terminator Should Be Cut. Yeah, I cant see how he makes the team. Disappointing because he was supposed to be this great FB prospect... Ganaway started at FB, he has versatility at RB, he can catch and John Conner is god awful at short yardage. If I see him get stuffed on 3rd and 1 again I may just have to break my TV.
I still think Conner makes the team, but then again, I'm not watching tonight. I think Baker's injury is big for Conner keeping his spot. If Baker were healthy, I think the Jets would have been more willing to platoon Baker and Ganaway at FB when they wanted to use one. Conner is a one-dimensional fullback who isn't elite at the one dimension he's good at. He's a good blocker, but he's replaceable, and he's too inconsistent.
So can Davis, Mcintire, Bellore, ect... I was expecting a lot more than just decent special team play.
Ganaway's not a true FB. If Baker were still on the roster I'd agree with you, but I just don't see it happening. I think Conner sticks but I also think they'll be running out of a single back formation 70-80% of the time because of Conner's ineffectiveness. Hope I'm wrong. Hopefully he's cut.
