If arm strength was all that was needed to be an NFL QB, Jeff George and Browning Nagle would both be in the HOF. I think that Jet fans have become overly obsessed with arm strength after watching Pennington injure his arm and struggle last year. Let's measure a QB's complete game before we judge future or present success purely on how hard he can throw the football.
This is where you are jumping to conclusions...the fans in this thread are simply making a point. Alot of people on this board have said that Clemens has a weak or average arm...The fact of the matter is they couldn't be anymore incorrect. THAT is the point of this thread...not that Kellen's arm strength will make him great. Simply that he has a very strong arm to go along with his top intangibles. (Scrambling, leadership, toughness, accuracy on short to intermediate routes, size (not tall but still has good size at 225) and is smart.
I agree with you, but all anyone seems to talk about is arm strength and whether it is there or not. If someone is labeled as having average arm strength, everybody goes "uh oh" and brings up Pennington. If someone has a rocket, he's our guy. That's my point.
things that do prove arm strength are.... being able to throw a 15-20 yard out route against a good defender and not get it picked off. being able to force the ball in across the middle when there are a bunch of people there and last but not least throwing the deep ball. the 15 yard out is a much better judge of arm strength than a bomb.
I know this is kind of off topic, but did anyone see the block that Clemmens made on the handoff where he pretended to be fake handing it off? He ran towards the bottom of the screen as if he were rolling out while the HB cut up and the middle, and then towards the bottom... Kellen got there right before the RB and threw a sick block. That was very impressive. It's good to know he's not a puss. As for the arm strength, I'm not worried. This kid seems like he has the complete package... he may not have the wow factor in any department (arm strength, athletics, etc...) but he looks like he can do a good bit of everything and should turn out to be ok. I like the pick.
I guess everybody should agree by now that he as a strong arm. It's amazing how people can look at the same player or even coach and some say that he is great and others say the he sucks like D Rob, A Jones. Sometimes I wonder how much time I have wasted readling all these posts. Either they play great or suck, it can't be both. Maybe people should have their eyes examined before they post. Or maybe it's because you really have to look at the films and watch them upclose before you can say anything which is what Tangini did with the third round picks unlike all the people saying what bad picks they were. Was Herman a great coach like a lot people were saying or bad coach like others were saying including me? Look at it this way, if he really knew about the game, he would have been so busy gameplanning that he wouldn't have time coming with such sayings like you play for the name on the helmet and not the name on your back or we were the dog chasing the car. Notice how little Mangini is talking. Could it be because he is bo busy getting the right players after doing his homework and has not time to waste talking?

No, the guy is right-- this IS a great find-- it actually shows us as fans a few reasons why this guy was worthy of a second round pick. This clip he found made me learn more about Clemons than every other post on this site.
Not to put too fine a point on it, but.... Playoffs. San Diego. Santana Moss. Running Full Speed. 50 yards, in the air, in stride. Between the Corner and the Safety. 6.
We all remember that pass and I am still trying to figure out how he did that with his arm all torn up, but with Chad it isn't so much how far he throws, but more about the velocity...I also have never been a fan of his deep ball...they hang up in the air for eternity. I remember one of his passes against Miami last year looked like a punt...it was ridiculous.
It sure seems like his are is plenty strong enough, but what really impresses me is that he always seems to hit hit receivers in stride, even on the deep seam routes. RAC should improve!!!
Both Jaws and Merrill Hodge agreed on that during the draft, I believe. Mel Kiper just shook his head in disbelief.
I like Mel Kiper, but sometimes I think he bases the player coming into the NFL too much on their college careers. I like Matt Leinart alot, but it seems to me that alot of people fell out of favor for Matt Leinart...even Mike Shanahan who coached John Elway said that Jay Cutler was their #1 rated QB.
