OK, so we go with Jones and Washington for another year while addressing much weaker areas of the team. Don't worry, there will be a McFadden next year, and the year after that, and the year after that, and...

Every year there's a new can't-miss-once-in-a-lifetime back who enters the draft. '06 it was Bush, last year it was Peterson, this year it's McFadden. So don't sweat it, there will be more. And the good news is we'll probably suck enough next year to have a nice shot at the next one.

Kris15, based on that theory, we'll pass on the next great running back in 2008 and 2009, since there will be one available in 2010. Thats where scouting comes in. If the Jets scouts think McFadden can be LIKE Adrian Peterson, it's a no brainer.

And why is everyone saying "Oh we dont have a need at running back?" Thomas Jones will be 30 this year and based on our 4-12 season its not like we're contending for a Super Bowl or anything. McFadden will be 21 this year. Thats nine years. Big difference.

If McFadden falls to six (which he likely won't) it's a no brainer for this team to take a back like him. They could work him in with Thomas Jones next year, let him learn behind Jones (split carries like Peterson did with Taylor) and use free agency to address the offensive line, defensive line (or later round draft picks).

Just saying that there will be other quality options there at 6 as well. If we can build a great O-line it won't really matter who we have at RB, he will produce. Therefore there's no reason to be hellbent on the Jets taking McFadden. Look at the Vikings, they would have had a dominant running game this year with or without Peterson because they have a dominant O-line. I would not be opposed to McFadden but he is not the only option. And you could argue that he isn't even the best option. And no I'm not saying I want the Jets to draft O-line with the pick.

If he's there at 6, we have to take him. Unless we are blown away by an offer, he is too much potential to pass over in my opinion.

The problem is everyone wants to trade down. In light of all the jets needs, I definitely wouldn't take McFadden. We need to fix the OL, OLB, NT and get another CB and WR so as you can see a running back is not at the top of our list.

I agree. As I said in my original post. The Jets have at least 3 or 4 greater priorities over selecting a running back.

The thread is really here to talk of the hypohetical situation which has a chance of happening. If McFadden falls to us then I hope we could get somebody to trade up. But, as I said earlier, I think McFadden goes in the #4 - #5 slot.

Too good to be true IMO.

Yes, we do. We have two running backs. #20, #29. How do you know Washington can't carry it 12-16 times a game?

Jones was barely used his first four seasons and since has only averaged 20+ carries pg once. He took over at UVA for Tiki Barber after he left, and Tiki just retired last year. While he got pounded this year, I believe he definitely has more in the tank than 2 seasons. Next year will only be his 9th season, and with more time spent sharing with Washington, it will only be to the benefit of his possible longevity.

It's not even close to what should be our biggest priority right now, and if it does become a need, I'd rather get a guy like Selvin Young, Earnest Graham, Kenny Watson, or Ryan Grant. All produced behind good lines.
