I've been drumming up a scenario, to see who would be on board with this.

This is all hypothetical on if Winston is taken first and Mariota falls.

The scenario is, Mariota is available for us at 6. Now, with Kelly having more power in Philly and having no clear cut QB I absolutely think he would try and trade up. Why does he trade up with us? Because we need a QB also. It's no secret Chip wants Mariota. Would our new HC/GM want to put all their chips on the table for a rookie QB?

    Here is the deal.

    Philadelphia gets:
    - 2015 6th overall pick

    New York gets:
    - 2015 20th overall pick
    - 2015 second round pick
    - 2016 first round pick
    - 2017 first round pick
    - Nick Foles

Would you do this trade or just draft Mariota?

The Eagles would never give up that much, but I'd jump on that deal.

They are moving up 14 picks, maybe 1 first, 2 seconds and a third or fourth.

Oh, it would cost them a TON to move up like this. Look at Washington for RG3 and Atlanta for Julio Jones.

The problem is, Philly would be fuckin morons to give that much up. The RG3 trade looks to be a HUGE mistake. That will forever loom in the minds of GMs.

I would take it in a heartbeat though. It just would never happen

One could argue that Philly is in much better shape than Washington when they traded up for RG3. They have the offensive weapons and have lots of talent of defense.

    They just need the QB.

Us on the other hand have many holes to fill, more draft picks the better.

The question is how much do teams value Mariota. I don't think he is considered anywhere near the elite type prospect that RG3 was when Washington traded up. But I doubt he is considered as poor a prospect as Sanchez was when the Jets gave up almost nothing to move up for him. It all depends upon how many teams want to move up. Is there a market for him. My guess its somewhere in the middle but not as good as the trade chart.

    The trade chart would give:

    Round 1Pick 6 worth 1600 =

    Round 1Pick 20= 850
    Round 2 (20) = 380
    Round 3 = 170
    Round 5 = 32
    Round 2 in 2016 = 170
    Total= 1602

I don't see Mariotta being worth near that much unless there is a big demand driving up the price

    Would this be more realistic?

    Philadelphia gets:
    2015 first (6 overall)
    Percy Harvin

    New York gets:
    2015 first (20 overall)
    2015 third
    2016 first
    2016 second

For them to move up this far we would have to at least get another first back. Harvin may be cut so why not trade him? He still has value.

FYI Sanchez's value as a prospect has nothing to do with what Cleveland was willing to accept to trade down. That aside, there are really only 2 teams I could see having interest in trading up for Mariota; that's the Jets and the Eagles. To be honest the distance the Eagles would have to travel up in spots makes them a very low probability unless he slides pass 6.

It had everything to do with why the Browns sold their pick so cheap just as it will with Mariotta. If multiple teams like the Rams, Eagles and whomever else value Mariotta highly the amount they will pay will increase. Assuming Mariotta makes it to six the three important questions are is there a demand for him, how much do these teams value him and how many teams may bid for him.

If your premise is true, that means teams disclose who they are trading up for, which I don't believe is the case. Sometimes it's obvious but I doubt anyone volunteers that info; it would put the team requesting the trade up at a termendous disadvantage. For example, the Browns after receiving an offer from the Jets would have called another QB needy team and tell them the Jets are trying to trade up to our spot to draft Mark Sanchez and willing to give up XYZ then ask them if they valued Sanchez enough to beat that. Jags, Redskins and a couple more teams had interest in Sanchez, if the Browns wanted to they could have shopped around. That offer wasn't really hard to beat. The deal was one amongst friends, Tanny and Mangini, that why it was so cheap not because no one really valued Sanchez.

Of course teams tell other teams that other teams are interested in. They may not mention the name but its a market and the greater the demand the higher the price. The greater the prospect and/or greater number of teams that want the prospect the greater the price. Mangini and the Browns may be stupid but if there was a materially better offer or another team interested in they would have taken the better offer. You have to remember that even the Jets scouting department was against drafting Sanchez. While not anywhere near much as they were against drafting Ghoulston who they were adamantly and philosophically opposed to drafting, Sanchez like Ghouston was purely a head coach's decision overruling the scouting department.

Funny you say this. As I was listening to the fanatic today apparently Philadelphia sports media and Chip Kelly are truly considering this. Sal pal was saying on the radio hes all for this and apparently Kelly really wants MM.

Chip Kelly will give up what he has to give up to get Mariota.

The problem for us is that he'll give that deal above to Tampa for the rights to the 1 pick.
