I just picked up a ten point ultra light this season because a co worker was selling it cheap and I was frustrated with spooking deer on the draw of the regular bow. Can't really speak to how I like it or not as I've only even fired it 3 times so far. The one time I took it out I didn't see anything

    Seems good so far.

Might want to wait till Wednesday, there's still a few of us with tags left over.

Just curious, you guys come across tagged and/or collared deer often?

@joe every now and then you hear about a deer with a collar like that. someone probably found it not to long after birth.
personally, i haven't seen one yet.

with sunday looking like rain, tomorrow will be my last sit for 2016. sitting in a small wood lot adjacent a uncut corn field. cold temps and snow, can't ask for more for a late season hunt.

So I managed to spook another group of deer. I went up and sat in the wood at the corner of the field out back where they always come out at dusk. My initial thought was to go up and sit on the top of the ridge where I wouldn't have had a shot into the field but would have been able to see them funnel in if they came that way. Instead went with the spot closer to the field with an easy shot into it because I wasn't sure if that's how they'd funnel in. Mistake. They came in right behind me of course - like really close - within 5 yards. I moved my head every so slightly when I saw one out of the corner of my eye and got a few snorts and a bunch of tails disappearing into the woods. If I had sat at the top of the ridge it would have been money.

Not sure if I'll try tomorrow morning. It would be my last opportunity to fill the freezer this year but I'm pretty tilted on hunting for now. Might just wait for next year and make sure I put a stand in the corner they always graze in.

Do you eat what you kill? I don't know if that's a dumb question or not. I've watched a lot of Alaskan Bush People/Dual Survival type of shows and while I know it's basically a farce it's pretty cool to see them skin a deer and use all of the meat.

How many meals can you get out of one buck, for example?

Yea I eat it, give some away, the farmer that lets me hunt his property gets his freezer filled.
A good adult deer will give you about 60lbs of meat. So that's 60lbs of chili, jerky, steaks, burgers, tacos, spaghetti sauce.

Shit I didn't even realize it was bow season until I saw my buddy post up his doe on FB. Been too busy with my new business to have a chance to even practice the bow. :(

Maybe I'll get out for gun season.

    Good luck brother.

On my way to Jersey I saw herds of deer right around here where I live. It was 4am, but they were just milling about..

    Get out when you can.
Yesterday wasn't great. Saw 1 deer 2 coyotes. No idea what the deer was. Moving in some thick stuff could just make out the body. Coyotes stayed just out of the shooting lane. I must have 6 different dogs on that farm. They were yipping and howling like crazy when I started walking in yesterday morning.
