On the Brian Hoyer front, will visit DEN as @AdamCaplan reported. If he doesn't sign there, expect him to a Bear by end of week

Interesting that they've brought in a few QB's and let them go on to visit other teams. Geno's deal is done after this year so this could all be a smoke screen to get Fitz to accept a lower deal while they're really prospecting for a replacement for Geno as b/u.

Supposedly the Jets made Hoyer an offer. Why would they have done that if what you said is true? Do you really think they'd sign and pay both? If not, what would they have done if Hoyer accepted their offer? Then both Fitz and they would have been screwed, unless they dumped Hoyer and signed Fitz. In that scenario, future FAs would never trust the Jets, and we'd have a lot harder time signing them and would wind up having to pay them more and give them greater guarantees.

I wouldn't be so sure they made him an offer. Yesterday I read a report that the visit was just due dilligence and 20 mins later a report came out that said the Jets interest was real. So no one really knows for sure

If in the small chance they did offer him something and I'm guessing, I'd say that offer was similar to what they are paying Geno. And obviously Hoyer won't accept that based on expierence alone.

No harm in an offer. But if they really wanted him he wouldn't have left the building.

I didn't...poor wording on my part. I'm guessing they did based on the headline of the NBC Sports article/report: "Brian Hoyer to Make a Decision Soon" or something like that. If the Jets didn't make him an offer, what does he have to make a decision on? To the best of my knowledge, he hadn't visited any other teams yet.

Why would the Jets offer Hoyer Geno money? That would be an insult. He's already very cheap at only $3-$4 million per season. They were really hot for him last year and he had a decent season, comparable to the one Fitz had the year before with the Texans.

No harm in an offer? Perhaps not, but if they truly want Fitz and can't afford to sign both, they were rolling the dice that Hoyer wouldn't sign.

Where I may agree with you is your last sentence. I think if the Jets really wanted Hoyer, they would have done their best to sign him, but just as they are only willing to pay Fitz $7-$8 million (what they think he is worth), I think they would only be willing to pay Hoyer what he was worth ($3-$4 million). I don't think they'd have gone to $5 or $6 million to sign him before he left.

Cause I don't think they really want him.

Their preferred choice is still out there with no other offers, atleast not publicly known ones.

Time is on their side right now. Worst case scenario if Fitz ever signed somewhere else, a QB on the same level as Hoyer (McCown, Foles) could be traded for.

Just no reason for them to overreact right now with a mediocre at best QB.

Hoyer will look for his best chance to start. He can get backup money from half a dozen teams, but he needs to play to get a raise next time around.

A trade would involve giving up a draft pick. The Jets cannot afford to give up any more draft picks. I think that would be the worst move they could make. If Hoyer and Fitz both sign elsewhere, and no other suitable vet QB is released, then imo they have no choice but to go with Geno and Petty, and possibly a draft pick.

If you're right about their not wanting Hoyer, then they've either incredibly cooled on him or fell in love with Fitz. If it's the latter, it looks like they would have been willing to pay him more than what has been rumored.

I think MacCagnan is playing it perfectly so far. He knows there's currently no other market for Fitz. So why up the offer? I think if let's say Carson Palmer fell in the shower tomorrow and torn his ACL and all of the sudden there was another legit opening for a starting QB , then maybe that would light a fire under his ass to get Fitz in here.

But until that extremely rare scenario happens , you stand firm on your offer and hope you don't have to basically double your offer to get him back.

I've said if before but if it was me I would give Fitz 10-12 mil over 2-3 years and call it a day. IMO that's an offer he would accept.

7 mil a year is a slap in the face unless they are giving him 3 years and guaranteeing 20 of it.

If I'm betting today I'm saying Fitz eventually resigns and he comes back at around 9-10 mil per season.

To me he's not worth 16 mil.

But are we really looking to lose this guy over 2 mil a year?

This franchise has cheaped out on Wilkerson. Forced Brick into an early retirement. Now we're gonna lose our starting QB over pennies?

Cant see it. There is literally zero downside to giving Fitz a 2 year 24 million dollar deal.

I believe the offer on the table is $11m with incentives.

Rams would probably ditch Foles for a 7th rounder and a pack of gum.

I saw something on this site yesterday that said they had offered Fitz $8 million with incentives that would take the deal to $11 million. If true, then he didn't accept it.
