they could easily wait until the draft is over if the plan is to lower Fitzpatrick's demands. He aint on the brink of a deal anywhere. They could probably wait until August if they wanted to
The one wildcard in this is Fitzpatrick's mindset. He's a smart guy who's made a lot of money in football already, and taken quite a beating. I'm sure he probably has some plans for life after football. He may have just put a price on what would make it worth his wild to come back for another year, and if he can't get it he's happy to walk away from the game. If he was willing to play on the cheap, he'd probably be in Denver already.
I highly doubt Hoyer is some highly sought after QB with multiple teams trying to sign him. Give me a break.
I dont think so CJ- or at least I'd call him on that bluff if I were the Jets. Seeing things like Fitzpatrick running head first into a safety down 14 late in a game in Houston tells me he's a guy who loves the game so much that he's willing to make decisions with his heart instead of his head when it comes to football. once the players start tossing the ball around he'll get the itch. we also dont know what Denver offered or even if they offered. I don't think he's got a hard line or retirement. He doesn't strike me as the type
Since he already knows the offense and has chemistry with the receivers, he may be waiting until TC or even August to sign anyway. That would save some wear and tear on his body.
This means the Jets (assuming the don't secretly already have a deal with Fitzpatrick done as has been speculated on here) will not be able to use Hoyer as leverage. But it also could be good in that I could definitely see Hoyer signing in Denver to compete with Sanchez for the job there. This would take really the only other team even in the discussion for Fitz off the board.
4 or 5 unnamed teams. Cowboys, who have a starter, are the only other team mentioned as possibly interested. Has he visited any other teams? Sounds like agent speak to me. I'll believe it when it happens.
Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter 41s41 seconds ago After meeting with Jets officials today, free-agent QB Brian Hoyer has decided to head to Denver to visit the Broncos, per source. Okay, we get it. Fitz just sign already!
Im guessing he came for the free hotel and dinner. It'll be funny when he leaves Denver (the team with Mark Sanchez as their only QB) without a contract offer too.
I think you're right. I'm guessing Mac made Hoyer a fair offer, so if he was willing to accept it, they could have called Fitz and given him one last chance, and if he said no, they could have signed Hoyer. Then again, they may have made up their minds already that if Hoyer was ready to sign, then they'd sign him and bid Fitz adieu. If Hoyer either signs here or with the Broncos, Fitz is basically screwed. I guess if Hoyer signs here, Fitz would still have a chance to sign with the Broncos if he lowered his salary demands, but if Hoyer signs with the Broncos, then it's either the Jets, retire, or hope that a starting QB goes down in TC.
Denver is an odd fit for Hoyer as they have Sanchez. Both are pretty much the same QB except Sanchez has played far better in the playoffs. As for the Jets: don't see how you can sign Hoyer and Fitzpatrick as they are both similar too. Both teams are odd fits for Hoyer.
@RapSheet Free agent QB Brian Hoyer, who is taking a physical as part of his visit to the #Jets, will visit the #Broncos, too, source said. He took a physical though
With all the people here comparing Hoyer to Fitz , Id have to agree with your comparison a lotttt more that Hoyer and Sanchez are pretty much the same QB. Fitz doesnt make the poor mental decisions that both of those other guys do. Hoyer is going to be hard pressed to find a starting job. If he signs with Denver , and they dont draft a QB high or trade for Kaepernick , Sanchez will be their starter come Week 1. And to me that says a lot about Hoyer.
There is no last chance for Fitz. The last chance for the Jets will come when/if Fitz gets an offer he likes from another team. Until then its just ball tickling from each side until something gets hammered out. He wants to be here , the team wants him back (at their price) so it just makes too much sense to not happen eventually.
