Seriously tho, Just have Petty and Hack battle for the starting job.... loser is the back up and get a cheap vet to be in the QB room with them and help teach
I ignore nothing. He had mixed results in college, both very successful and some bad exposed tape. The point is that he was believed in enough to be taken at the top of the 2nd round and everyone wants to move on before we even see what he has to offer.
You make an interesting point. If Mac is interested in developing the team for the long term, and Bowles is interested in squeezing as many wins as he can get in 2017, Mac's main weapons to affect his goals are free agency and the draft. If all he leaves Bowles with are Petty, Hack and a draft pick, Bowles is going to have to play one of them. He wont be able to play a Cutler because he gives him "the best chance to win". He plays the best young player on roster. This whole gutting of the veterans may be a forced move by Mac to ensure Bowles develops players. Just spit ballin' here...
AHAHAHAHAHAH 2017!!!!!!!! The year of the TANK YES!!!...hack and petty try their hand ,,,why not? 2018!!!!!!!!!>>>>>>California Dreaming Finally something good is happening and everyone complaining...build thru the drafts..suck it up Think about it...legit FQBs are right around the CORNER The only better news will be Todd Bowles leaving us early
Agreed. Actually you can have Petty and Hack get all the reps in camp and only sign a FA vet in August before the season starts.
No, what most are saying is: "It;s time to put up or shut up". Go ahead play him, NOW. See if he's the answer. And by that, I'm not saying that he has to go undefeated and win the SB, but he DOES have to show that he can play the position and move the team and demonstrate something that proves he was worth that pick. No one is saying to cut him now, but most are very skeptical that he is the answer, and if that's the case, the we should be looking for the next answer.
The only problem with that rationale is that things change. Guys can get hurt, arrested under perform, etc..... We see this every year.. "Oh next years QB class is going to be great", then when next year comes, only 1 guy out of the 5 or 6 is still relevant. I say draft a QB in RD 1 every year until we find our guy. Fuck it. Can't be worse than what we have been doing. I am tired of bringing in 34 year old vets.
Personally I'm with any of 3 options: 1) Have a QB competition which you claim Hack to be the winner of and start him in 2107. 2) Trade for Cousins giving us the best or 2nd best QB in franchise history at a high cost. 3) Draft a QB but no sooner than the 3rd round, and unless it's the next Russell Wilson he sits while Hack starts. These strategies consist of: using what we already have, going with a known commodity, or not investing too much. All these options have their level of security.
Agree..no more Vets for sure Ive got like 200 posts saying you take a QB EVERY year...this year go for it after Rnd 2 ..Mahomes maybe? dunno... Jay...there are just TOO MANY HOLES on this pathetic enterprise to fill so we need to use our #6 and tradedown
Yes, that's exactly what I'm advocating! Any vet signed allows Bowles to screw up Petty and Hack further, and by extension, the team. Really, for all those who believe in Petty or Hack, you ought to be rooting for Macc to draft a QB which means that Bowles will have no choice but to play one of them, and that's a win all the way around. And to put a finer point on it, if you're going to draft a QB, and go into TC with three unproven guys, you'd better have selected the best three you can, which means taking a QB at #6, whoever you think is the best candidate. You all know I think it's Mahomes or Watson, but it has to be the best available. If you draft a "project" in a later round, and Petty and Hack both fail the test, then what? You need to have a guy with the potential to be a FQB in the mix.
I do like the trade down option because you are right we need help on every level, offense and defense. And to think this time last year we thought we were a piece or two away from seriously making a run....
This strategy can work if you have a top 2 overall pick. If not you might as well try to get the next David Carr or Russell Wilson in the later rounds.
And knowing the Jets if 2018 is the year that 10 first round lock QB's are coming out, we will make it to the AFC Championship game with Geno to ensure we do not get one of them.
Perfect point . If where you play in college or where you're drafted equates to your success in the NFL then Brady would be out of football and guys like Leinart & Young would have a bunch of rings . Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
If you are looking to improve the team on a performance level and no other side agendas. Starting Hack is the best option we have. He either proves himself, or we suck and end up with a great pick. Win, win.
#! - Why bother with a "competition" if you've already decided Hack is your guy? #2 - Makes no sense whatsoever. Who says Cousins is a lock to be your FQB, and you're going to empty the bank to get him. It is a proven fact that you NEVER find a FQB in somebody else's cast offs. #3 - If you go into the season with Petty and Hack - both unproven - and no vet - which is what I'm advocating - you had better have the best QB you can find in the draft, which you won't get in the even the 2nd round let alone the 3rd. If this is your strategy, you need to take your guy at #6 and have faith in your ability to judge QB talent. And if Macc doesn't believe in himself that much then he shouldn't be the GM.
If we go into the season with Hack and Petty as our guys I say do this. Let the best man in training camp take the first 8 games. If we are 3-5 or worse, the other guy finishes out the season. If 4-4 or better, ride it out and maybe we have our franchise guy.
Here's a question.... if Romo picks Denver, should we try and get Trevor Semione? Just an idea...... can't be much worse than the alternatives lol
I've been hearing wait til next year for the QB for every year I've been on this board. You don't get many chances to get whichever QB you like best in the draft. For a team that has no QB and hasn't had one in forever they should not be wasting this opportunity. Every report is Watson is rising and we just might get first crack at him. He has every intangible it takes, has the physical talent it takes and has performed his best on the biggest stage. We have absolutely nothing to lose. Waiting til next year when we have zero idea if they'll be even in position for the top QB or if he'll even declare is a disaster waiting to happen. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
