...yeah, Vernon Davis can't actually play football.

    Davis' 51 receptions for 871 yards and 6 TDs as a tight end...in a run-happy offense isn't shit.

If San Francisco had better quarterback play and a better offensive scheme, Davis would put up decent numbers. in 2007, he had 500 yards receiving in a garbage offense. Not bad.

He certainly hasn't lived up to his draft status, but he can definitely play football.

Back to Jarron Gilbert -- he won't be a top ten pick and he was extremely productive at San Jose State. If the Jets land him at 17, I'd be ecstatic...he'd fill a hole and he has the potential to become an All-Pro 3-4 end. He's a lot like Richard Seymour.

Go watch some of his game tape and then try to tell me he "can't" play.

The way people talk about draft value on here really gets on my last nerve. To say you can't take a guy at 17, but you might take him ten or fifteen picks later is comical when you look at the history of the draft. Even the guys who do this for a living take Cedric Benson 61 picks before Frank Gore, take Michael Haynes 42 picks before Osi Umenyiora, and take Sione Pouha 36 picks before Kerry Rhodes. The list is mile long of guys who got drafted too high or too low.

In the grand scheme of things it makes no sense to pass on a guy you like because you think you may be taking him a few picks too early and I hope we don't draft that way.

Very solid point. You should take who you think is going to be a true football player, not who is going to be available at a certain given time. There should be some players who shouldn't even be on your draft board if you think they aren't going to make it at the next level.

I can't support any mock draft that has a defensive player in the first round. Our O is looking atrocious at this point and has to be the focus early in the draft. If I was GM it would come down to one of these players in order.

    Stafford/Sanchez
    Crabtree/Macklin
    Moreno

In the second round I would hope for Brown, Britt or Nicks depending on which position was addressed in the 1st.

I dont get it with Gilbert i like him as a prospect but #17 overall really is he that good idk, id much rather draft a wr cause that what we really need right now.Maclin or Britt and id be fine with that.
And Barden id be so pissed if we drafted him in the 2nd

    EDIT
Just watched a video of him and he's quick as hell but still he's gonna have to get stronger to do what he did playing against inferior talent, but is till want a wr in the 1st

Like the positions you are thinking of, and I like the Gilbert pick in spite of the backlash here. I would prefer Robiskie in the 2nd, or perhaps Donald Brown at some point who I would love to see in green. Urbik looks like he has the potential to be a solid pro, and we do need depth on the line (not 6th or 7th round depth either). I love the Brinkley pick if he is there. That dude is a BEAST!

I can't agree more. Of course, I would have probably draft Dominique Rodger Cromartie at #6 last year. :eek:hmy:

I don't see Gilbert lasting the whole 1st round with all the hype(Deserved, or not). With Ryan going to his pro day, and the need for a DE, I would be willing to go pre-register for his Jersey.
