I start Geno the rest of the way. Evaluate at the end of the season and either give him the job or move on from him. Super Bowl run is pretty much over anyway.
I have defended Geno but I don't agree with this. We should start whoever has earned it going forward. Geno is likely to have at least 2 games coming up here to prove he should stay the starter but he needs to play well. With AFC South as bad as it is, there is a clear path to the divisional round from the wildcard 1 spot, and we are in play for that spot. You don't give up on a season for QB development when there is a path to the divisional round of the playoffs. If Geno plays well enough to name him the starter even when Fitz is healthy, then so be it, but if not, we should go back to Fitz. We aren't a SB contender but this season is not relegated to player development solely at this juncture.
Geno, if healthy, should get the same deal fitz got. Geno starts until he shows he shouldn't. Bowles laid out the policy. Can't change it now
You have to spend quality time during the season to evaluate or you never get the eval right. The only way to judge Geno is to leave him in there and see what he has to offer. With our limitations on both defense and offense, we're not seriously in the SB conversation and that path to the wildcard is all up hill for a team that can't pressure the Qb. By year's end, we have to know if Geno is the one or not. Can't keep on with this hanging over the franchise's head.
I think it's pretty obvious. Geno didn't do enough to automatically win over the job. Fitz is our starter still. He has to be. If he can't go then Geno as our back up will get the go ahead. Todd Bowles already crowned Fitz the starter and geno as back up he's not gonna go away from that now.
I can see it now. Geno didn't have game time experience with Gaily. You have to give him at least 3 games to evaluate his performance this year. The D lost the game. The interceptions were not his fault. Geno is getting better. Give him time. Please it's like the genobots have risen from the dead.
We are in the 6th seed. There is zero reaosn not to keep competing. Best/healthiest QB gets the rock until the math says we aren't playoff bound.
I felt the way you do about a month ago. After seeing that shitshow yesterday, I'd prefer they cut Geno ASAP and sign the stadium janitor to finish out the season.
He won't. As soon as Fitz is game ready it's back to the bench for Geno. Unless he overwhelms but who would be crazy enough to think he will??
This is so damn true and such a tough decision to make. Risk messing up a possible play off season? Or risk messing up possible answer at QB?
By then, any evaluation of Smith would be worthless. If Geno starts and keeps us in playoff contention, what better evaluation could you expect? If Geno starts and we fall out of playoff contention, that should be enough evidence that Geno is not the one. Either way, Geno has to be tested while there's still something worth playing for. No more basing evaluations on meaningless victories against teams with nothing to play for.
i don't fully disagree with you but if Fitz is the better option in the CS's minds then you go with Fitz. The option may not be available anyways if that left thumb doesn't heal quick.
At this point we don't lose a ton by losing Fitz, he's been a very mediocre QB against shit competition. I definitely don't want to see a diminished injured Fitz running this offense. Assuming Geno isn't completely broken after the ass kicking he took, I would start Geno every game and see what we have. It's year three, if he still can't play cut him and look at FA, trade, or the draft to bring in some more QB's.
Essentially agreed, what does a first round knockout do for us? A little bit of confidence and momentum from a 9 win season? Meh. Let's see if the kid is actually better under a new coaching staff and with Marshall. Unless he completely shits the bed the next 2 games while Fitz recovers, then you can just say he was filling in for injury and you get your evaluation out of the way quickly too.
not that I'm a geno supporter but to be fair, 20 points should have been enough to win us that game with all the money/talent we have on defense. You can't blame geno for the loss. he can in behind with a defense that couldn't tackle or stop the raiders, a bad o-line with no mangold, a beat up ivory who couldn't run and no deep threat to strecth the field.
