RE: Hackenberg I believe he is the definition of a lost cause. What do you do with a lottery ticket that doesn’t win? You throw it out, and buy another. The Jets should throw out Hack and Petty and draft two different QB’s to replace them with. RE: McCown Cousins is the only QB on that list who represents a long term answer at the position. If the Jets bring in any of the other QB’s they would not be considered anything more than a stop gap. McCown has proven to be very good in that role and would also be less expensive then Keenum, Bradford, Bridgewater, and Smith.
McCown had a career year like Fitz in 2015. He's also 38 years old. Odds are he'll be terrible next year.
I'd like to call him the new Al Davis, but there's nothing new about Snyder's idiocy. I guess even owners can be fanboys too. Dan has Al, like woody has Kraft. Edit: I'm certain there's a cowboys reference available too. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
If he’s terrible then the rookie comes in. None of those guys will probably get this team into the playoffs expect for maybe Alex Smith, and I’m not trading away any draft picks for him.
Depends what the pick is. Smith is a pretty good QB. You could trade for him and draft a QB giving that QB time to develop. The Jets know more than I do about Hack. If they felt that way and cut him I would understand. I still hope he takes that jump this offseason though. Exactly. He will not duplicate it in 2018. As a QB Coach I would love him, but on the roster: No Thanks.
There are 4 or 5 QBs that are worth a shot. Get the one you want even if it costs you picks. But this year to year shit can't go on.
Signing a Cousins or Alex Smith puts us on the path to becoming another 2000-2006 era Jets team. Just good enough to barely miss the playoffs or barely make it in and get bounced early. If you aren't going the high draft pick route then you may as well just stick with McCown and save the cash. What they really need to do is just go aggressive and trade up for the guy they want. We have enough cap space to fill out the roster in the absence of a few draft picks.
I agree 100%. This is the year to go for it. Darnold, Rosen, Allen, or Mayfield would be great and instant faces of the franchise. If they do that and then re-sign McCown and give him the job to start 2018, I would even sign up for that, as I would know the future is finally set up.
Well Alex Smith to the skins pretty much means cousins is available. Fucking skins are demented. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
The scenario you are describing is what we had in 2009. A Lamborghini roster with a newly licensed driver at QB.
If Pennington stayed healthy and we helped protect him better, 2000-2006 might've been a different story completely.
Patience. I don't understand the rush to pay Kirk Cousins whatever he frickin' wants. I don't see this crazed market developing for this guy I really really don't. Why? Supposedly the 2018 draft is one of the best, deepest QB drafts in history and there could be other cheaper veteran QB options available one domino already fell with Washington trading for Alex Smith that's only the beginning. And for goodness sakes let the situation in Indianpolis materialize there's a chance ANDREW FRICKIN' LUCK could become available. PATIENCE!!!!!!
Well, it all depends how much is Bowles willing to risk. Throwing in a rookie QB, I think, is too risky a move for him. So Bowles will either go for Cousins or just resign McCown, I think that's most likely to happen. If it were me, I don't know, I'm not entirely sold on this year's draft, we have the cap space for Cousins so try to sign Cousins. If that fails, you can always start a rookie.
Plus 1000 I've been beating that drum for months All the youngsters here were prob 10 or 15 years old back in 2006 so they don't recall that failure but have big eyes today for the flavor of the month Free Agent QB as the Answer...hahah
