Why stop at Geno ... we should bring in Manziel heck he could prob bring his bad boy friend Josh Gordon along for the ride
Martin, he was in his 3rd year last year and he could not beat out a scrub journeyman, even if he was healthy he was going to lose the job to Fitzpatrick. Bellows1 made a good point, it was Gailey who said Geno was the starter and Bowles squashed that statement made by Gailey. TC is nonsense, he is not good and he won't be good, you can keep on looking at things from a Geno sunshine fan club but it's not going to make a difference. Please don't get me wrong, I would love it if he was the franchise QB that the jets desperately need, but I know neither he or Fitpatrick are the answer. The jets need to move on from both of them, Fitpatrick because he is not worth 16 million dollar a year and Geno because he is not our future. I respect your opinion but we will have to agree to disagree.
Yes he was in his 3rd season but he played 1 game. He beat out Fitz (who was recovering) for the job. Geno barring injury had the punch not happened might have started all last year with Fitz on the bench. Who knows, but Geno only has 2 seasons of playing under his belt. Theoretically we should move away from both. Should Fitz leave that leaves us with Geno. He could be our starting QB and do well for a very low price. Starting QBs at low prices are almost non-existent. Should Fitz go to another team parting with Geno would be ludacris. He will play out next year and see if he is worth a damn. You don't just dump him, especially if your starting QB from last year goes some place else.
I'm sorry I thought it was the HC job to make that decision. I guess Bowles does really do things different then all others.
It was your argument that Bowles and Mac named Geno the starter, they did not. Once again you were wrong. Geno was the "starter" in TC, because there was no one else on the roster other than Petty. Geno had a chance to win his job back against Oakland, he played pretty well, but still couldn't stop the boneheaded mistakes he's made from his first game. He was so impressive, the coaching staff went back to the QB with a broken hand the very next game. A QB who could barely handle taking snaps.
Geno was the "starter" by default. He was the starter coming off 2014 and the only other QBs on the roster were a raw 4th round pick and a journeyman with a broken leg who was not physically able to play. There were no other options and apparently Bowles likes to have a starter named before camp starts. Could Geno have actually won the starting job and beaten out all comers in a full camp? Or retained his nominal status? Maybe. But we'll never know because he was such an idiot he got himself knocked out of contention because, well, and at the expenses of being repetitive, he was an idiot. Fitz came in and took the job away for good and ran with it. Even with a hand that needed surgery and his bad stretch there early on, Geno could not supplant Fitz as the starter. At the risk of quoting Brad, think about it. _
I agree, Geno would have had a breakout year had he been given the opportunity. With the money we save on not signing Fitz, we can resign Quigley long term. <<< F'n bonus!!!
I had a long post, f it though. Fans, media, players and even coaches don't like him. If he comes under center it is, most likely, a recipe for disaster.
He had no chance what so ever to win his job back against Oakland. I really don't care who starts. I want wins. The Jets have playoff talent but they didn't make it because of Fitz. If Fitz want big then the Jets should let him walk. Something should be said for a guy who just had a career year but not many people want him. RG3 has more teams that want him and he only had one good season.
Like worms coming out of a rotten apple. All the Geno homers are having a field day with the unsigned Fitz news. I would rather have Petty take his lumps as a rookie than see Geno out there
It always amazes me how short people's memories appear to be. Geno Smith was the worst QB in the NFL the two years he was in there, commanding one of the most unwatchable offenses in franchise history. Then, a year later, Fitz came in and led arguably the single MOST watchable, competent offense in franchise history... and you wouldn't mind Geno back under center? Unreal.
There was at least one or two other changes with the jets that also helped out with that situation. New OC, new HC, new #1 receiver. As much as I don't have faith in Geno, he's no worse than dirty Sanchez. I first joined this board in disgust replying to some people here that were defending that bum. No one thought anything about Fitzpatrick before this season. He had a career year with the pieces that Woody put in place. Why is it so hard to believe that Chan can make Geno into a competent starter? We have a OC that is cheered for bringing out the best in his players and coaching to their strengths. Geno is certainly not a leader, but right now we already have leaders in the locker room. If CK can take the 49ers to the super bowl anything is possible.
