I think we are actually better right now than last year. It hinges on qb play. We could win 4 or 10. We will not sniff the Top 5 picks either.

Heavy dabbling in free agency is always about failure to find talent in the draft. The reason the big spenders in free agency mostly flop after doing that is that good management wouldn't have to go all-in on free agents. They'd have the talent on hand to make that unnecessary.

 

That's really going out on a limb.

 

Bradys first SB win was with 26 FA's.

 

And that team was on the way to 0-2 and headed nowhere fast when Bledsoe got hurt and Brady came in.

They won the Super Bowl because of Brady not because of the 26 free agents (assuming that's what it was.)

If Sanchez had gotten knocked out last year and McElroy had miraculously turned out to be a hall of fame QB the Jets might have won a Super Bowl also. Not because of the haphazard free agent work of the previous three or four seasons but because they found a hall of fame QB and things sparked from there.

 

They won the Superbowl because of cheating :grin:

 

Cheating + Drew Bledsoe was good for 5-13 in Belichik's first 18 games as head coach.

 

So if you removed those 26 players the pats would have won anyway just because of Brady...pretty much just plug any player in right?

The poster was trying to make a point that you cant win a superbowl by picking up FA...I gave just one example.

 

If you removed Tom Brady from the equation those 26 players would never have sniffed a Super Bowl. That's my point. Whether Brady could have made it that first year with whoever was on the roster if the FA's had never been signed we'll never know.

 

The pats have been very good at picking up FA's that fit their system...not as good in the draft other than a couple of TE's.

All comes down to QB. Just as stated above, with a future HOF QB running the offense, Superbowls happen. Believe me, those 26 Free Agents definitely made an impact, but they sure as hell were not the reason they won it all.
