I know Wilk is a stud. I will be concentrating on Ellis, Coples and Hill. And of course, whomever we draft at 9 this year. Couple beers, some wings, follow my fantasy team and look forward to 2014.

Kind of like last year when it was obvious after the Miami win that the team was a dumpster fire.....going 4-11 the rest of the way proved it. I'll watch if a different QB is under center.

Unfortunately the routine is all too familiar...watch until you can't take it anymore, curse tv, turn tv off, repeat.

I thought last year was awful. Injuries to top players. The whole Tebow nonsense. The buttfumble, and that awful game in Foxboro. Rex playing Muck in Jville was probably the lowest point of the season.

So could next year be worse? Sadly, yes, as long as Sanchez is still the starting Qb.

If he's not? Then there may be some things to make the season worth watching. But if he's in, I will just bide my time until he's gone. Get his loser ass out of town.

Call me silly, but I don't see how watching the 2013 Jets could be any worse than watching the 2012 Jets. I expect more of the same. Although, with the change in offensive philosophy, we could actually be better on the field than we were last year.

The one advantage this upcoming season has vs last season is that last season there was a still a reasonable assumption that the Jets could rebound / get back in it.

I think there are very few people this upcoming season who are expecting the Jets to compete for the playoffs. Expectations are really low right now. Honestly its a good place to be, because if they suck then we're ready for it and if they actually do well then it will be a pleasant surprise.

This might be a great year to watch more college football to see what type of talent will be available for the 2014 NFL Draft!!!!!!!

Meh. Not a college anything fan. But I might watch more NFL games the Jets are not in, although that probalbly will not be an increase in Giant games. I can only see them so often before some internal reject button gets pushed.

There really wasn't though. The Jets were dead team walking coming out of training camp and then they ran into the only team in football with higher expectations and less chance of a good outcome in the season opener.

Low expectations that are exceeded is a great place to be in a rebuilding year. I think there will be people fanning the "Jets are much worse than they should be" flames also. The frontrunners who dived onto the Rex bandwagon when it came into town will have to vent on the way out. The long-term darksiders will have to have their say. The people who bought PSL's to watch a Super Bowl team and now are watching a rebuilding effort will be vocal.

The Jets still have to do the rebuild but it's not like the Cardinals where everybody just hopes this rebuild is better than the last. The Jets haven't done anything resembling rebuilding since 2006 and really not since 1997. The fans heads aren't where they need to be to make watching the Jets next year fun.

well the stress should be minimal akin to what it was like during the latter walton, kotite and a couple of edwards years.....

funny thing with these rebuilds - a team has to window it correctly - usually its one of 2 things - get ur franchise QB and fill in the missing parts OR get ur defense to a top ten level and take it from there.

obviously the jets are closer to the 2nd option and hopefully they can take that to the house. the trick is to not have that window on defense close while continually searching for the answer on offense.

The Jets lost their best defensive player, and their top two receiving threats. They also lost three games by 6 points or less. Here are those games (and Mark Sanchez's turnover stats in those games):

HOU loss by 6, 2 ints
NWE loss by 3, 1 int, 1 fumble lost
TEN loss by 4, 4 ints, 1 fumble lost

If the Jets just had a competent QB that didn't turn the ball over 2 times a game on average, they might have went 9-7 instead of 6-10 last year. That is with a team that was decimated by injuries and a lack of depth with an inept offensive coordinator.

Next year might be more painful because we will lose some talent we had last season for good (Revis, Keller, Landry) but there is always room for hope with Rex coaching the defense and the potential of an offensive coordinator that knows what he's doing. There is also the chance that we might start an NFL level QB, which would help a great deal.

And what does any of this have to do with Jets not being dead team walking coming out of training camp?

The QB's were who they were. The Jets were dead team walking coming out of training camp.

Yeah. I dunno, I just think if there were not so many injuries we would have been looking at a 8-8ish team instead of 6-10 and all the doom and gloom.

And in all seriousness if they had both not had the injuries and had a Qb of midlevel NFL competence, they could have been a playoff team.

Oh, I totally agree with that. I thought the Jets were a 7 to 9 win team coming out of training camp last year, bad offense and all.

From a Super Bowl perspective they were dead team walking though and the playoffs were a long shot.

You have to just hope for the best while expecting the worst I guess.

The way I look at it though is if Rex Ryan could get this team to back to back AFC Championship games with Mark Sanchez at QB anything is possible if we can upgrade that position.

If Garrard or Kolb could come in here and play better then Sanchez and Rex can show the NFL why he is one of the best defensive minds in the game the Jets could win 9-10 games.

Biggest problem in my eyes is that the Jets lost some key pieces on defense, the offense sucks but it's never been any real threat (outside of being able to run the ball in 09 and 10) since Rex has been here. We need to replace DeVito, Landry, and Bell. Those are the big ones in my eyes. If Garay and Ellis can step up and the Jets can get a safety the defense can develop.

Wilkerson is one of the best defensive lineman we've had in a long time, Coples is coming off a strong rookie year, we need a pass rushing linebacker but there a lot of options to fill that void in the draft this year.

A lot has to break right but its not impossible for this team to surprise people. If the Jets end up keeping Revis theres a big piece right there thats going to help, Holmes returning is going to help as well. The Colon and Goodson signings were very solid in my opinion. Shonn Greene average 3.9 yards per carry behind a pretty solid O-Line last year, thats addition by subtraction there in my opinion. Bell and Landry as much as they helped us are average players in the grand scheme of things, if we can just find it least 1 decent safety I have faith in Rex to get the D on track. Then it comes down to finding another lineman and having somebody beat out Sanchez at QB.

Of course I realize i'm looking at this as the glass being half full instead of half empty.

Lots and Lots of Natty Light. Then some Apple pie moonshine. Then a long nap after the game.

    Next week repeat.
