My father and my uncle took me to a game at Shea and Joe Namath threw a touchdown pass. This was sometime AFTER they won the Superbowl. I was forever hooked.
I'm a Jets fan from England, and was aware of the game as a kid but had little knowledge of it. I was about 10 years old when the Flash Gordon film came out, and remember he introduced himself as "quarterback, New York Jets". I thought this was a made up team name, like Melchester Rovers soccer team in the Roy Of The Rovers comic. A couple of years later, Channel 4 in the UK started a weekly highlight show on Sunday afternoons, and I loved it. One of the earliest games I saw was the Jets shootout win over the Dolphins and I was amazed that the team mentioned in Flash Gordon was actually a real team. So naturally they became my team
I keep asking myself that very same question just prior to the start of the NFL season each year, and each and every week during football season. LOL
