Well the TE in the running game will be the case for the rest of his career. He's never gonna be a great Run blocker. However, i was more referring to in pass protection. He was ccoddled alittle bit his rookie year w/ TE help..now he's getting thrown to the wolves...these are the growing pains. It also doesnt help that he's trying to grow and and has played next to 3-4 guys already this preseason. Cohesion is def. a factor when you're trying to improve as an OL.
We have 2 #4 picks on our team, Brick and D'rob, both of whom have been crushing disappointments. We did nothing to improve either line in any real way this offseason. I If I'm playing the jets I would come out in a 2 TE formation and run right up our gut all day long, as Oakland did several years ago. We will never get off the field. Combine Chad's gimpy arm and our oline, and on defense our adversaries will do what they always do, pinch the safeties in, load up the box, and dare chad to beat you over the top. When he finally lofts up one of his wobbly ducks, you will always have time to get to the ball. Hell, the way he throws our receivers should be able to call fair catch to keep from getting murdered.
Your post suggests another point about the kendall fiasco. By the FO jerking around with him all summer instead of getting him either outahere or raised in pay, kendall stole reps in tc from both Clarke and bender. So, the Fo effed themselves even worse by stalling the progress of the left side of the OL.
Maybe they wanted to see how Kendall would handle himself. At least they parlayed it into a pick rather than just cut him. A lot of guys are going to be released the next two weeks, you never know who they might bring in.
If they thought he was going to be a mensch about it, they never would have stuck him in the rookie dorm. They escalated the emotions, and set the stage for him to act like a schmuck.
I kind of think they did that on purpose to see how he was going to carry himself. They got their answer right away, then it was probably a matter of showcasing him for a trade.
Just a little Heads Up. Those are the Guys who got already cut. Nothing special and probably no improvement: offensive tackle Andrew Carnahan ( Jax) center Donovan Raiola (Steelers) offensive tackle Mike Jones guard Jeremy Sheffey (Chargers) OL Marques Ogden ( Titans) Guard Jon Hameister-Ries (Cardinals) G Nathan Bennett (Carolina) T Eric Graham (Carolina) offensive tackle Jason Hilliard (Cowboys) center C.J. Blomvall (Packers) guard Pat Murray )Packers) G Nick Steitz (49ers) G/C Jonathan Clinkscale (Bucs) T Jabari Levey (Bucs) C Nick Mihlhauser (Bucs)
Well, they lost points in my book when they did that. And then to give us a pile of crap about it being a mistake just made them look like vindictive idiots. Whatever happened to treating people like professionals, and treating them with the respect you want them to treat you with? That was immature fifth grade sh1t.
He didn't have one of his run blocking gaffs where his defender treats him like turnstile and then blow up a play in the backfield. But then again we never really got the chance to sustain a drive.Apart from his sack he didn't do much wrong,he apparently gave up a pressure but I can't remember that play.
I don't think anyone bought that it was a mistake, not sure why they even went with that. They pride themselves on attention to detail, had all year to figure out who goes where. Unless they didn't expect him to show up and had to stick him somewhere at the last minute.
The fact that they did go with that b.s. is further evidence of how they mismanaged and miscalculated the entire situation. And i think it was MUCH more important to give the other guys the valuable reps needed at guard, and not waste reps on him to "showcase" him. He's gone now, but the FO is still here, and that's why i am still talking about what they did. Not everything they have done has turned to gold (see, e.g., Schlegal, and i have my doubts about taking brick with the 4th pick).
From day 1 Brick has just looked weak as hell, no power whatsoever. However, I have in no way given up on him, it's way too early to jump to any conclusions. The kid sure could use some help on his side of the line though.
He was and has been Bad all PS. I said it before, I'm not ready to call him a bust but there is a reason you don't use a high draft pick on a Project especially if he's on your QB's blindside!
I recorded the game and just had a chance to watch it.........DAMN that's ugly! Looks like a freakin Jail Break every time Chad drops back. Most impressed when the Giants line shoved our fullback into Chad.
That wasn't a fullback, it was Leon. Giant announcers suck! Brick looks like crap. Has all preseason. Looked like crap last year too, and he did nothing in the offseason to get better, unlike Mangold. Enough with Kendall already. We got a pick for him, which is better than letting him go for free and to a team in our division. BTW, why haven't the Kendall fans talked about how he wiffed on some blocking assignments and how bad Brick looked when they were on the line together? Stop the excuses. Brick looks like crap because of Brick.
I think we need to give him a pass on the game, because if you watch the tape, he was obviously given the assignment to help out Bender. Brick isn't ready for that yet, IMO, and it showed. That side of the line was horriffic.
There are way too many people overreacting here, one bad game and suddenly Brick is the next Gallery. Give him some time, maybe he didn't play like the #4 pick last year, but he certainly played well enough to protect Chad for a playoff spot and a full season with no injuries. IMO the coaching staff now knows that Bender is not capable of starting and Clarke, who hasn't been completley terrible will get the nod so Brick won't have to worry about picking up too many missed assignments. Also Mangini and Schotenhiemer aren't idiots, they know that teams will be stacking the weak side so expect a lot of adjustments like screens to Washington and big runs by TJ on the strong side. I do understand that LG is a huge hole on the team right now, but I have enough confidence in our CS to know that they wouldn't have let Kendall go if he wasn't replaceable by Week 1.
haha, yea. ive been preaching about brick since predraft. whatever, people will learn. i hope he proves me wrong then id actually be happy.
