We'll need that extra pick. Forget about anything BIB happening for us this year anyway.

(I mentioned this in the other thread)

If you are going to suspend an assistant coach 5 games for HGH (which has no impact on his coaching ability) and a player 4 games for smoking dope it would ridiculous not to suspend the head coach.

In addition, as Goodell mentioned that he is going to hold CS and FO to higher standards, there needs to be some punishment for the organization who either knew or should have know this was going on and stopped it.

Therefore, I would think that an acceptable penalty would be the following:

    1) For the Organization: Forfeiture of the highest 1st round pick in the 2008 (keeping in mind they have 2 first round picks)

    2) For the Head Coach: 4 Game Suspension (as he as admitted to the practice)

While I would love the Jets to get something out of it, it shouldn't and won't happen. Belichick's transgression was against the integrity of the game. While he was caught against the Jets, the cheating extended to many other teams as well.

(Fine, the Jets should be awarded a marble rye "delivered" by an old lady.)

The reason it shouldn't happen is that the NFL would then open itself up to a host of teams seeking compensation for prior transgressions. Clearly the Pack would request compensation as it was the same guy who filmed at their park. Remember, he was just caught against the Jets, but the practice was suspected for some time.

(And, while I think the sign stealing could have given the Pats an advantage, I just don't believe that the Jets were the better team on the field last Sunday.)

Forfeit draft picks to the Jets.

Suspend Belly for 4 games, the same amount a player is suspended for cheating/substance abuse.

If they had to forfeit the game, you sure as hell wouldn't here me complains

If they are proven guilty, it should be (1) something to directly benifit the Jets since they were directly hurt and (2) something to benifit the rest of the NFL since the reputation of all of the NFL has suffered. As Pete Rose would say, the game has been tarnished.

The NFl has to make the penalty big enough to keep any team from doing it again, and the fans should not take the hit. Monetary fines won't hurt the bazillionaire owners.

    How about
    for (1) Forfeit the game
for (2) Patriots give up all their draft picks for the next x years untill every other team in the NFL has received a pick from them.

Thanks man, but I can't take full credit for it. GM started the "New Pats Logo" thread, and Mad Hatter made the original image of the logo with the camera and headphones. During the course of the thread, it was requested that someone make it an avatar, so I Photoshpped it with the words and actual logo.

It is available for everyone to take and use in that thread.

No. As I said earlier, The coaching staff should be suspended for at least four games.

    But as to the game....

The Pats should forfeit the game. (Hear me out....)

The Rematch should be taken from NE (as punishment to the organization, forcing them to return 1 games worth of revenue, and allowing the Jets organization to get the home game advantage that was, in effect stolen)

Now, the forfeit having occured, the TEAM can neutralize the penalty by winning ON THE FIELD, making it 1-1 head to head, no loss in the division standings etc.

Forfeit of Draft choices spreads benefits to all teams that finish behind NE, and does not compensate the Jets directly, and IF you forfeit Picks to NYJ, then Miami and Buffalo are in effect penalized by NE.....)

This way, only the teams involved are directly penalized/compensated...and life goes on..

I spoke with someone yesterday who knows a little about this whole thing. Here’s his take:

The Patriots on Friday are going to press the argument that the video taping is legal. The reason, as I’m told, is that the instruction from the league office was that there be no videotaping from the sidelines or coaching box “for use during the game.” Belichick’s argument is that he doesn’t use the video during the game; and doesn’t even use it during the season. It’s collected for off-season evaluation.

This explains the Belichick statement of yesterday: “Earlier this week, I spoke with Commissioner [Roger] Goodell about a videotaping procedure during last Sunday's game and my interpretation of the rules. At this point, we have not been notified of the league's ruling…..”

He’s anticipating that the league will provide a ruling on whether videotaping for future use is, in fact, a violation.

Might have more later. I LOVE this story. . . .

Was this before or after they were busted for the radio waves fiasco?

Also, it may not matter anyway. This "case" is not being decided in US District Court. It's being decided by the "head" of a business entity. Just because a case is presented "Johnny Cochran" style, doesn't mean Belichik is getting off like O.J.

I saw Beli's press conference yesterday. He was clearly nervous, not angry, at the questioning. He knows he's smack dab in the middle of Shit's Creek, the paddle floated away 10 minutes ago, and now there's hole in the boat.

People here have posted that the Jets won't recieve draft pick compensation for the Pat's cheating. Under the commisoner's power he has the ability to make any ruling he sees fit. There has been no precedent for the type of documented in -game cheating and ignoring a edict from the NFL by any other NFL team in it's history. The Jets lost their starting QB possibly for a month. No one can say for certain if the Pat's cheating helped in putting Pennington out.On that basis alone the Jets deserve compensation. A fair outcome would be that Belichick be suspended for the next Jet/Pats game.Absolutely under no circumstances could Belichick have contact with any person connected with the team. A violation would result in a 1 year suspension from the NFL to the coach and the owner Bob Kraft. Also I would award the Jets the Pats highest 1st pick this year and next year's 2nd pick.

take multiple draft picks for 2 years.

how long has he been doing this? it sounds like since mangini was their.

that means that last year when we beat them in their house we beat them with the pats cheating, which means mangini is truly a genius.

this is why i think belichek was so upset mangini left, because he knew he was going to bust him.

which also means we will be beating the pats more often now, and have a chance at the division.

you guys are either retarded or grade schoolers, the tape was taken 8 minutes into the first quarter. it had no effect on the game what so ever. What you guys think they steal the signals and match it up to the playbook in a span of about 20 sec. and as far as the extra radio waves are concerned is that neither team controls the headsets that is setup and monitored by the nfl. Thats why the radio shuts down after the 40 seconds when play starts. I understand you guys are looking for any reason to justify why your teamed looked so bad. maybe because they are that bad

My initial reaction was - so what! The Jets got their clocks cleaned. But, as I found out more and realized that the Patriots as a team and Bellichick himself were warned about this before - and that they had been caught doing this before, I have changed my mind.

No wonder the Jets couldn't stop the Patriots! With the talent the Patriots already have, knowing the defensive schemes in advance, and being able to call plays to exploit those defensive schemes gave the Patriots a major unfair advantage in the game.

There is no way to penalize the Pats fairly other than to have the game forfeited to the Jets!

your not being logical in your theory. what your saying is they saw the signs and just happened to know what play i that sign went to. for your theory to work the pats would have to have the game plan as well. sorry guy it doesnt work that way. theway it really works is you have to match p the signs with game film on monday and try to decode which coach is sending in the correct sign based on play that was ran. it still takes a good aount of film work to do
