I agree on the Revis deal... it's always hard to play fantasy GM because every year they come up with creatively incentive laden contracts... still, I'll try. Mangold: 6 yrs 48 mill (8 per year) + reachable bonuses up to 54 (1 mill possible bonus per year) + unreachable bonuses up to 57 (0.5 per year). Harris: 6 yrs 42 mill (7 per year) + bonuses up to 48 (1 mill per year). Ferguson: 6 yrs 57 mill (9.5 per year) + bonuses up to 63 (1 mill per year). Revis: this is tricky considering we'd have him on the books for 1 mill this year and 5 next year. - If he re-signs NOW max I'd give him is: 6 yrs 72 mill (12 per year) + reachable bonuses up to 84 (2 mill per year) and unreachable bonuses (DPOY, SB MVP, etc) up to 90 (1 mill per year). - If he plays this year for 1 mill and we re-sign him next year: 6 yrs 84 (14 per season) + reachable bonuses up to 90 (1 mill per year) and unreachable 96 (1 mill per year). In his first 6 years he'd make 72 mill with option 1 vs 71 mill vs option 2... + he gets the money straight away. Question is: is Tanny willing to offer that much money? I'm not so sure about it...
Paying Scott was for a particular reason: to have a teacher for Ryan's 3-4 among the linebackers. The attitude he brings was also part of the deal. To not pay Harris, who is easily the more talented of the two and with much more upside would be silly. If Harris has to have Patrick Willis money then the Jets are in trouble, but unless they fold to Revis I doubt Harris will be asking for Patrick Willis money.
Yeah I agree. I don't think Mangold will get an 'almost' $10mil a year contract. But $8.5 would be pretty good. Sure, Mangold will try for $10 mil. Dbrick should get close to $10 as suggested. Revis WILL NOT GET $14.2 mil a year contract. They ONLY person who can force Tanny to offer such a contract would be Rex. No one else can do so cuz Rex can breath down Tanny's throat to throw whatever money it needs to have Revis signed. If Tanny is not persuaded, Revis will get around $13mil a year deal. David Harris' contract looks good, although he deserves much more than that since he will play out his piece of cake rookie contract for four years at about $2-3 mils total.
Why a no trade clause? My understanding is that teams are mostly unwilling to do no trade clauses, as it locks them into soaking up the monetary hit (cap-wise or not, whether released or kept) in the event a player declines or becomes disgruntled. And if released, the team gets nothing in return.
IMO it gives him more ease to agree to the deal. But id like Revis' contract to fluctuate with opposing contracts ( Meaning if Mangold is being paid 9.6 one year Revis is getting 10 but if Mangold's making 8 Revis is making 15) Not saying those number but having the totals help and equate with other contracts to help the payroll.
Revis - 6 years, 81.6 million (13.6m a year) Brick - 5 years, 44 million (8.8m a year) Mangold - 7 years, 56 million (8m a year) Harris - 5 years, 38.5 million (7.5m a year) I'd give Revis a huge signing bonus to cover the gap between 13.6 and the ~17 he wants.
i think gholston deserves a huge contract extension. haha. i think $40M/yr going to 4 players on defense is a lot. if cap is $140 then defense gets half, or about $70M/yr split between 25 men playing defense. that leaves $30M/yr for the other 21 defensive players to split up. have fun with that.
Here's the issue I have with these Madden contracts, and if I'm not understanding this correctly, please tell me. If we sign a guy to a contract that says "We guarantee to pay you at least two million dollars in 2011," and then in 2011, there's no football... ...don't I still owe you two million dollars? Or if I sign you to a contract that says "this contract is legally binding unless x happens during the NFLPA negotiations," and then x happens during NFLPA negotiations... ...isn't that contract invalid?
Guaranteed money is guaranteed money unless the player does something to abrogate the contract. In a lockout scenario guarantees will have to be paid. In a strike scenario they would not as long as the player was honoring the strike.
The ''Big 4'' consists of Mangold and Brick on Offense and Revis and Harris on Defense. So 40 mill is split on each side of the ball.
