Liked everything except the Chan part. There seems to be some boneheaded-ness to his play calling. In particular, in 3rd and short situations, on more than one occasion, he's called ridiculous long pass plays to the outside. Low % attempts instead of picking up first downs to keep drives going. I also don't like the breakdown of reps between Bilal and Forte. Bilal is a weapon, that yet again, is being used too infrequently. His complete disregard for the TE is also troubling. Why take such a valuable piece of an offense completely out of the game? I get it, they don't possess a top-tier talent at the position, but a TE catching the first pass of the season in week 5 is ridiculous.

This. No one was bidding against us. Also, the Hackenburg pick in the 2nd round. I feel he could have gotten him way, way later in the draft.

He gets some blame, but overall he has been quick and decisive. I thought the quickness in which he signed Forte after losing Ivory and the way he brought in Clady after Brick retired was great. He keeps things quiet in the media, but stays busy in the background. For example, the last minute unexpected Wilkerson deal.

Here is a list of his potential mistakes:

    1. Revis contract

If Revis never returns to form, then he is way over paid. Luckily his cap hit goes down to 10m next year, so he could potentially get healthy and live up to it. I'm not counting on that, however.

    2. Fitz contract

It's hard to fully blame Mac on this one, because there weren't many options available. If not Fitz, they bring in somebody like Hoyer, give up resources for Kaepernick or Osweiler, or give the reigns to Geno. The way things went last year, it would have been bad to not bring him back, and honestly would Kaep, Osweiler or Geno have done any better in those games against top ten defenses? I don't think so.

    3. 2015 draft

I know this seems harsh and it's a bit premature, but Devin Smith was trash, and Leonard Williams was not necessary. All in all the draft was lacking. As we have seen many times, a stacked D line is pointless without linebackers that can cover and a solid secondary. Leonard Williams might have been the best value at the time, but the Jets didn't need him and could have improved the oline or linebacker core instead. Seems like quite a bit of misses in this draft, although the ship has not sailed for Mauldin yet and I have high hopes for Petty.

    4. Not bringing in a TE.

This has hurt the Jets. I know there is the rumor that Gailey doesn't use TEs, but I feel it's just because he doesn't have them. This position has hurt us both last year and this year.

He's made some good moves but looking now just as many that haven't worked out. Caving into Fitz, missing out on key draft picks. But that's par for the course for the Jets. I'm more concerned by our coaching, defense and Fitz at this point. Macc is at least competent.

First of all, as much as I dislike Todd Bowles and the pathetic job his CS is doing, I do want Mac to stay.......

    He did some good things:

    1) He managed to resign Bilal Powell preventing the Patsies from getting him.

    2) He signed Steve McClendon to replace Snacks. That IMO was a great second option. There's no replacing Snacks, but this was the next best solution.

    3) He managed to get Mo to resign. I NEVER thought that would happen. The front office had tried for years through multiple front offices to get Mo signed and all of them failed. But suddenly it happened and that was big.

    My criticisms are the following:

    1) He hired Todd Bowles. It's obvious to me that Bowles is simply an amateur and cannot handle the most menial things that a HC needs to do such as in game adjustments. But what's even more important is how long will it take Mac to realize his mistake? I don't want to see him hold on to Bowles longer than necessary simply because of Mac's ego. He should simply admit his mistake and move on to the next HC if things continue the way they are right now.
    2) He drafted Darron Lee. it's obvious to me this pick was all about what Todd Bowles wanted and thought he needed. The fact is, OL was a MUST during the offseason, but he went the way of what Bowles wanted and for what reason? A little guy, situational, part time player that absolutely cannot cover a TE to save his life? What's even more insulting toward the fans is the boasts of the Bowles claiming Lee would inside, outside, and cover TE's. Well, so far he gets owned regularly by much larger RB's, He has NOT played outside and likely never will, he's simply too small, and his time attempting to cover Jimmy Graham was a disaster. He never stopped a single pass going Graham's way. Imagine howbad this will get when he faces Gronk? This picks IMO was all about Mac panicking. The board didn't fall the way he thought it would. He wanted an OL and him trying to trade up to grab Laremy Tunsil proves that. But when the all of the Ol were gone at #20, he panicked and he ended up getting Bowles what he wanted in an effort to possibly pass the buck if the pick did not make the team better. Well, it hasn't and it's obvious. Darron Lee was supposed to put this defense over the top, instead this defense is a running joke..........

Hoyer could have played as bad as Fitz for $10 mil less

Agree...and he has done a very good job contrary to some posters suggest... he had to spend back on NFL rules and he rebuilt the secondary and frankly its laughable how some posters bitch now because players are underperforming as well as the coaches.

His two year neglect of the OL on draft day is shameful. After the last preseason game, Bowles still had not yet decided between household names Brent Quale and Ben Whatever his last name is, for starting right tackle. Shameful. The rest of the OL save Carpenter is either long in the tooth or a bunch of scrubs. THAT is why Forte always has nowhere to go.

Is Breno due to come back any time soon? There's been little to nothing about his health recently.

I don't blame him all too much, although he has made some questionable decisions. The RB situation and all the money tied up in Powell/Forte is looking to be a big waste for production we could've gotten out of at least one rookie paired with them.

Not sure if Chan/Bowles is more to blame, but man. We sure could use a savvy veteran sure-handed receiver like Jeremy Kerley right now. 26 catches for 304 yards this season when he's actually been given an opportunity to go out there and run routes. He's operating out of both the slot and being split out wide. His misuse was mind-boggling and he would've been very important for this team with Decker done for the year.

no matter what, the Jets absolutely cannot bail on a gm after two years at this point.

I don't really blame him for this season, but there are things he has done that I think will hurt the Jets more in the upcoming seasons.

I have always thought this season was going to be very tough to make the playoffs, but it is slowly turning into a disaster. I am not sure if there was anything he could have done to fix that, unless Hoyer came in and produced more than Fitz.... Or was not the net negative Fitz is currently.

    What I liked:

The Jets needed a #1 CB when they signed Revis, so I get it. We were without a further declined (as opposed to last year) Revis for 1 game this year, it was tough to watch.

I liked the Lee pick, everyone was crying about lack of team speed, especially at LB... So we go out and get speed. He is a young 20 something that has made some mistakes his rookie year.

I breezed through the thread, and someone complained about the Wilkerson extension? I would laugh in your face if you tried to make this argument to me in person. I don't expect Sheldon to be with the team much longer.

Letting Snacks go was also a very smart move and not over paying for multiple years.

    What I didn't like:

I do think he should have focused on OL earlier in the draft, or more in FA. I really thought we were going to go OL in round 2 of the draft after the Lee pick, and there was a lot of talk of Hack being available much later.

Once again, I get why he resigned Fitz. He is loved in the locker room, and it would have effected chemistry if they got rid of him for someone like Hoyer. I can even live with his 12 mil salary this year. What I can't live with is the 5 mil in dead money that will be attached for Fitz next year... That's a bad move.

Not getting a better #2 CB is killing this team.

We have a lot of money tied into aging players, we are basically forced to make big moves next year regardless of success/failure.. There is going to be some guys released next year that will really show the signs of a rebuild.

The GM works for the owner. He wanted Fitz back. This season is the product of an awful schedule and an average QB. The NFL is a now a league where only teams with good QB's have a chance. It is boring unless you have a top 10 signal caller. Finish last when their is a great one available or get lucky with a Russell Wilson and a big home field advantage and you have a chance. Boring league that is too QB centric.

Only decision I really disagree with is the Fitz signing. We gave him a ton of money that we really didn't need to....nobody was signing him...you have to.let the market decide the price, not the player...

I love how people are defending Macc wtf has this guy actually done?31 other GMs would have drafted Williams at 4.He has wasted two second round picks on Devin Smith and Hack.Which will set us back years after Macc gets fired. He hasnt shown any ability to draft well. All hes done is spend money on aging veterans and hasbeens. He completley ignored the TE position and its fucking us with each passing game.Im not impressed not even a little bit.Hopefully the Billboard crew is getting ready for there next campaign if things get worse.

The Revis contract was a no brainier at the time. Nobody expected him to decline this quickly, but sometime that's the way it goes.

I blame Bowles for a lot of the defensive problems because that is his speciality. He should be giving Mac the rundown of what players to go after in free agency on that side of the ball.

I will say that I don't think McCagnan has drafted very well outside of Leonard Williams.

Have to agree with your post. As far as Hailey not using TEs look back to his year as OC for the Chiefs. Gonzalez had 96 receptions for 1,058 yards and 10 TD’s. At Buffalo Scott Chandler was a big part of the offense. I think he averaged 6 TDs a season. The Jets just have not had a serviceable TE.
